Examples:
1. The following are the results of midterm exam (X) and the final grades (Y). Show that there is a significant
relationship between the result of midterm exam and the final grade at α = 0.05.

Test of r
== =
I. Hypothesis: There is no significant relationship between the midterm exam and final grades.
II. Level of Significance = 0.05
III. Stat. Test = Pearson Correlation
IV. Computations: r = 0.95 and
V. Degree of freedom and Critical value : Df = N – 2 = 8, CV = 0.632
VI. Decision/Conclusion:
Tr table at α = 0.05
Since the computed tr of 8.607 is greater than the tabular tr of 0.632, at 0.05 level of significance
and 8 degree of freedom, reject null hypothesis. This means that there is a significant relationship
between the midterm and final grades. The higher the result of midterm exam the higher the final
grades.
Assignment 2
1. The following are the results of 8 students who are taking Math and English
test. They obtain the following in Math: 85, 87, 82, 91, 76, 78, 76, 77 while in
English, they had 82, 83, 88, 88, 82, 84, 84, 85. Calculate r using the formula
given. Test the hypothesis at LS = 0.05.
Regression

A study is conducted on the relationship of the number of absences (X) and the grades
of 15 students in Statistics (Y). Using 0.05 LS prove that there is no significant
relationship between absences and grades of 15 students in Stat. Predict the grade of
student with 7 absences.
