    The Types of Computer


    Computers come in different sizes,
    appearance, capabilities and
    functions. Computers are classified
    according to their capacity to handle
    volumes of computer-related tasks.
    Super Computers
    Supercomputers are the most powerful
    computers ever made. They are used to
    process large amount of data and are
    very useful in problems that require
    complex calculations.
    Super Computers
    Supercomputers are used for
    applications ranging from nuclear
    weapons development to accurate
    weather forecasting and other
    applications where maximum speed
    and power are very important.
    Mainframe Computers
    Mainframe computers are used in
    organizations where several people need
    to access information frequently.
    Mainframe Computers
    Mainframe computers can also handle
    large amount of inputs, processing,
    outputs and storage. Several computers
    may be connected to a mainframe.
    Minicomputers
    Minicomputers lie somewhere between
    the mainframes and the personal
    computers. Like the mainframes,
    minicomputers can handle large amount
    of inputs, processing, outputs and
    storage.
    Minicomputers
    There are some minicomputers that are
    designed for single users and there are
    those that can handle dozens or even
    hundreds of terminals. Some companies
    prefer to buy minicomputers because
    these computers are inexpensive.
    Microcomputers
    Microcomputers are computers that used
    a microprocessor as their central
    processing unit. Minicomputers are
    portable computers. Because of this,
    microcomputers are also called personal
    computers.
    Microcomputers
    These computers come in different
    shapes, sizes and brands. Some models sit
    on desktop and others stand on the floor.
    There are microcomputers which are the
    size of notebook. Hence, these computers
    are called laptop.
    Personal Digital Assistant
    The personal digital assistant or the PDAs
    are the smallest among these computers.
    They can be held in one hand and used as
    notepads, scheduling systems and address
    books. Although it is small, it can also be
    connected to internet.
