I. INTRODUCTION TO THE LESSON

● Lesson Title
Linear Equations
● Lesson Overview
In the previous lesson, you were taught about the concepts of exact differential equations. You must follow the six (6) steps
in order to solve for the solution using exact equation
In this lesson, you will solve for the solution of a differential equation using its linearity.

II. LESSON PROPER
Linear equation of order one may be expressed to the following
conditions.𝑑𝑦 𝑑𝑥
+ 𝑃 ( 𝑥 ) 𝑦=𝑄 ( 𝑥) + 𝑃 ( 𝑦 ) 𝑥=𝑄 ( 𝑦 )
𝑑𝑥 𝑑𝑦

Linear in Linear in
y x
The general solution of equation in the form above is:
∫ 𝑃 ( 𝑦 ) 𝑑𝑦 ∫ 𝑃 ( 𝑦 ) 𝑑𝑦
𝑦𝑒 ∫ 𝑃 ( 𝑥) 𝑑𝑥
=∫ 𝑄𝑒 ∫ 𝑃 (𝑥 ) 𝑑𝑥
𝑑𝑥+𝐶 𝑥𝑒 =∫ 𝑄𝑒 𝑑𝑦+𝐶

IV. SUMMARY OF LESSONS
 The solution of a differential equation can be solved using linearity with respect to x or
y.
 Three (3) steps should be followed to solve for the general and particular solution of a
differential equation.
 In case that the differential equation is not linear in y, solve the equation using linearity
in x or vice versa.
