What are ear preparations ?

They are lipid or solid or semi solid preparations intended for instillation (drops), spraying, or
insufflation. For the ears. To treat infection, Redness, or any other kind of disturbances.

There are 3 types of ear drops based on the solvent :


• Solutions
• Emulsions
• Suspensions

They are prepared in water, glycerin, propylene glycol or alcohol.

They can be purchased with or without prescription.


There are also 3 types based on how they work :
• Ear wax drops
Carbamid peroxide

• Fluid drying (swimmers ear ) drops

Debrox

• Anesthetic (numbing) drops

Uses of Ear Drop :
1. Antibacterial.
2. Softening the wax.
3. Mild infections. (Otitis)

*Use the drops twice a day for 3-5 days to soften the wax

Preparation of Sodium Bicarbonate Ear Drops Equipment and
materials
• 250 cm° beaker
• 100 cm' measuring cylinder
• Glass rod .Spatula
•Sod.bocarb 5g ( was softner)
•Glycerin 30ml (viscusity builder,lubricant)
•D.W. Q.s. 100ml
POSSIBLE SIDE EFFECTS Like all ear drops, Sodium Bicarbonate Ear Drops
can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them.

• The ear drops can make the symptoms of excessive ear wax worse, including
some discomfort, irritation or pain, loss of hearing, dizziness and tinnitus
(ringing sound in the ear.It is unlikely that you will experience any other side-
effects but speak with your doctor or pharmacist if there is anything that
concerns you.
When should Care Sodium Bicarbonate Ear Drops not be used?

* It is not suitable for use on children under the age of 5 unless they are under direct
medical supervision.
* Do not use Care Sodium Bicarbonate Ear Drops if you are allergic to any of the listed
ingredients.
* If you experience any pain or irritation while using this product, stop using right away.
* Do not use drops if you have a perforated eardrum
* Store below 25°C and discard 28 days after first opening
* Ear drops should not be used if the bottle has been open for longer than four weeks.
