This type of computer is used by large
companies to service their customers.
For example, ATM machines in the
country are linked to their bank’s
powerful mainframe computers.
 Mainframe Computer
This computer stores data about every
customer. The most powerful
mainframes are called
supercomputers.

This minicomputer is smaller than a
mainframe. It is larger than the computer
you have at home. It is used by medium-
sized companies. It can store all the data
that is needed by a small company.

Most of us will not be using
minicomputers nor mainframes. We
don’t usually need computers that are
very powerful.

 Microcomputer
The microcomputer is the most common
type of computer. You might have one at
home. You also see many of these in
Internet cafés, in your school, and in
most offices. This type of computer is
usually called a desktop personal
computer.

Most people call it simply a desktop
computer. For most of our needs, a
desktop computer is enough. Small
companies use desktop computers
instead of minicomputers because they
are not very expensive.

A mobile device is a very small

hand. There are many different kinds of
