An Overview of Religious and Regional Festival
in the Philippines
Objectives:

 Describe the different festivals celebrated all


over the country throughout the year;
 Categorize the different festivals as either
religious or non-religious regional festivals;
 Create a Festival Locator Map which can
locate the festivals all across the different
regions in the Philippines

Types of Festival

1. Religious
2. Regional/ Culture

 Celebrated in honor of a saint or any commemoration


of religious practices regardless of religious
denominations and sects.
 Celebrations of thanksgiving that focus on aspects of
tradition and heritage.
 Pahiyas Festival
 - celebrated every May at Lucban, Quezon
 A colorful and vibrant thanksgiving festival to honor
San Isidro Labrador ( farmers, laborers & agricultural
workers)
 Design their houses with their harvest & the colorful
“ kiping”
- is a traditional Filipino leaf-shaped wafer made from
glutinous rice.
Moriones Festival
 Marinduque & in some places in Mindoro
 Portrays the suffering of Christ and the story
of Saint Longinus who plunged a spear into
the crucified body of Jesus

which portray faces of the Roman Soldiers

 Comes from Ilonggo term” dagyang”
which means “ merry – making”
Participants shouted “ Viva Senior Santo

Flowers of May

- Spanish “ Flores de Mayo”

- It is one of the May devotions to the Blessed Virgin Mary and
lasts for the entire month
- for the beneficial rain she brings that make flowers bloom after
the dry season.
- the community congregating in the afternoons to pray the
rosary, offer flowers to the Virgin Mary, and share homemade
delicacies and snacks.

True Cross by Queen Helena of Constantinople (known
in the Philippines as "Reyna Elena") and her son
Constantine the Great, who would later be emperor of
the Roman Empire.

search and discovery of Christ's Cross by Queen Helena
and Constantine.
