Psycho-Oncology is concerned with the psychological, social, behavioral, and ethical aspects of
cancer.
Two major psychological dimensions of cancer:
● The psychological responses of patients to cancer at all stages of the disease, and that of their
families and caretakers
● The psychological, behavioral and social factors that may influence the disease process

Multi-disciplinary Interest 
clinical disciplines (surgery, medicine, pediatrics, radiotherapy), epidemiology, immunology,
endocrinology, biology, pathology, bioethics, palliative care, rehabilitation medicine, clinical trials research
and decision making, as well as psychiatry and psychology.
Case
● Mr. Ben is a national level hockey player, recently he was selected as the team captain. His
girlfriend died recently, the investigation team interrogated him on this case, since there a
complaint that she was murdered. After the interrogation Ben’s performance in the recent few
matches was very poor. The head coach asked to receive professional help. Meanwhile
investigation team found that her neighbour murdered her accidently while stealing money from
her home and tried to plot against Mr. ben.

● School psychology is devoted to counseling children in elementary and secondary schools who
have academic or emotional problems.

focused primarily on child development, but today devotes a great deal of research to

Psychometrics (Test Construction and
Psychological Assessment)
● Is concerned with the measurement of behavior and capacities, usually through the
development of psychological tests. Psychometrics is involved with the design of tests to assess
personality, intelligence, and a wide range of abilities. It is also concerned with the development
of new techniques for statistical analysis.
