THE IMPACT OF

ONLINE LEARNING ON
BUSINESS COURSES
BACKGROUND OF THE
STUDY
Online learning is a big trend nowadays in higher education. Online learning or E-learning is a term used to describe various learning environments that are
conducted and supported by the use of computers and internet.

These include: E learning, distance learning, computer learning among others (Anon, 2001). Distant learning is one of the terminologies used in E learning
and encompasses all learning methods that are used to train students that are geographically away from the training school. Online learning on the other
hand is used to describe all the learning methods that are supported by the internet (Moore et al., 2011).

Another terminology that is used is E learning which has been described by most authors as a learning method that is supported by the use of computers, web
enabled communication and the use of new technological tools that enhance communication (Spector, 2008). Other terminologies that are used to describe this
form of online learning are virtual learning, collaborative learning, web-based learning and computer supported collaborative learning (Conrad, 2006).

Online learning has affected how people see the learning and teaching process and the overall quality of learning. As with every other process, online learning
has its pros and cons for both students and teachers.

Besides all the challenges you could face during your online learning experience, there are a lot of benefits and advantages to it. Some of the positive effects of
virtual learning on students include increased efficiency in learning, accessibility, affordability, improvement of students’ attendance, etc.

Despite all the advantages mentioned above that virtual learning provides, there are undoubtedly negative side effects of this particular learning experience.
Technology issues, additional screen time, lack of motivation, and a sense of isolation can all be problems that students and professors can face while
participating in online classes. (University, 2022)

With all the ideas gained and mentioned above, the researchers find it relevant to conduct this research which will prove how online learning can affect the
Business student at Universidad de Sta. Isabel.
STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM
1. Has the increase in online learning made an impact on business courses for students?
2. Is there a considerable difference in the students who attend online classes as compared to those attending in-class lessons?
3. Should education systems gear towards utilizing online learning more as a platform for learning?
