The STORY OF Tumpaan
Village
Tumpaan Village is located in the is said that around 1450 people came
lowlands near the coast of Teluk from the Soputan mountains,
Amurang, South Minahasa, North namely between the Upper
Sulawesi. Approximately 65 km from Tombasian or "Tou in Wasian" and
the city of Manado. There are three Ranolambot. The residents of these
rivers flanking the village of two villages have a good
Tumpaan, the Walaimbang River in relationship, because they both
the east and the Sosogian River in the believe in "Dotu Karengis" as a
south and the Ranotuana River in the brave man who can lead them from
north. The name of the village of all challenges, both wild animals and

Tontemboan language, which means They came from the north as pirates
"The place where people from the and wanted to seize the land of
mountains come down". Minahasa.
Then the residents who lived between Tou in Wasian and Ranolambot agreed to find a
new settlement because they felt that life in the mountains was not so good, and they,
under the leadership of the Dotu Karengis, headed to the Pakatumpaan settlement

Once when Dotu Karengis was chasing the Mindanao people, he arrived at a large

land/plain and he wanted to live there.
plains. It is told about the might of Dotu Karengis where when he visited the Tuud in
Wasian settlement, he was suddenly attacked by the Mindanao people. The residents of
the Tuud in Wasian settlement did not really know Dotu Karengis, therefore they were
not sure if Dotu Karengis could help them defeat Mindanao people. They were forced to
leave their settlements and fled into the mountains. On the other hand, tou Tuud in
Wasian somewhat suspected that Dotu Karengis was one of the Mindanao tribesmen who
were assigned the task of spying or scouts.
To prove that Dotu Karengis was not a Mindanao scout as the Tou Tuud in Wasian
settlement alleged, Dotu Karengis summoned the 6 strongest people among the
Patumpaan residents and then they fought to expel the Mindanao people. Many
Mindanao people were victims, while some fled towards the shore and fled in their
sailboats. Dotu Karengis invited his friends to go home and stop at his place of residence.
The six friends made a statement that they would live and would not part with Dotu
Karengis. That was the beginning of the Tou Tuud in Waisan's belief that Dotu Karengis
could guarantee their safety and peace.

In general, the population of the Patumpaan settlement grew when Tou Tuud in Wasian
joined and settled together. Dotu Karengis was appointed as their leader, and at that time
Dotu Karengis named the settlement PATUMPAAN.
Generally, their occupation is farmers. But a few moments later
they moved again, simultaneously to the new settlement,
leaving the Patumpaan settlement. The residence was not far
from the old settlement, about 2 km east of the old settlement,
which was later named Tanukota. Now the residence is better
known as MAWALE, which is located along the Sosongian
river. Then there came a great number of people from the
mountains and settled there.
The life of the people there likes to move, and there was a
new settlement which is 1 km north of Patumpaan which was
later named TINUNDEK (now Matani village). In this new
settlement, the agricultural output is quite good. However, it
turned out that their health conditions did not allow them to
survive.

In this Tinundek settlement, it turned out that many people

from the mountains came down there to earn a living. Among
the group were escorted by 2 strong and mighty people,
namely Dotu Tangkere and Dotu Roring. This group came
from Sumonder and joined the Tinundek people.
An unforgettable event on April 7, 1574, the two Dotu who came from
Sumonder invited his entourage to move settlements. The invitation was
well received by only a few. In fact, it turned out that some of those who
moved came from Sumonder, partly from the original Tinundep
settlement.
Over time the Patumpaan settlement became more and more crowded
and in the end the people who lived in Tinundep moved again and lived
together in the Patumpaan settlement. The busier the Patumpaan
settlement, the greater the interest of the Mindanao people to attack the
Patumpaan settlement. But thanks to the cooperation and courage and
agility of the three Dotu; Dotu Karengis, Dotu Tangkere and Dotu Roring
then the attacks of the Mindanao people can be paralyzed and repelled so
that they never attack again. And now the people of the Patumpaan
settlement live in peace and security.
● That is Dotu Roring who Tumanik in doong in Patumpaan. Meaning:
DOTU RORING THIS IS THE ESTABLISHMENT OF
PATUMPAAN VILLAGE. The hustle and bustle of the Patumpaan
settlement is increasing and becoming a bustling city for buying and
selling, exchanging, catching fish. Some of them on the coast
become fishermen, some of them become farmers, gardens and rice
fields.
● Many foreigners came to Patumpaan, including the Portuguese and
Spanish (the Portuguese fort still exists around the northern coast of
Tumpaan, near the former fish auction).
After a few years the Portuguese and Spanish settled in Patumpaan, they advised the people of
Patumpaan to grow coffee. This work is led directly by the village head/Tonaas. As the planting
location, the garden/land was chosen which is located in the east, about 3 km from Patumpaan
village, along the Sosongian river. After the death of the Spanish and Portuguese, Patumpaan
residents did not really care about coffee plants. The former location of the coffee plant was
given the name Pakopian to commemorate the history of coffee cultivation.

Finally, gradually the people of Patumpaan are more familiar with cultivating coconut trees.
Until the coconut tree became a source of livelihood and finance until now. Finally, gradually the
