Cleanliness

As per section 51 of the Bangladesh Labour


Law 2006, every establishment shall be kept
clean and free from effluvia arising from any
drain, privy or other nuisance.

Ventilation & Temperature

As per section 52 of the Bangladesh Labour Law


2006, effective and suitable provisions shall be
made in every establishment for securing and
maintaining in every workroom adequate
ventilation by the circulation of fresh air.
As per OSHA Standards a factory needs to be well ventilated and the temperature should
not be less than 60 degree, and not more than 86 degree Fahrenheit.

Dust and Fume

As per section 53 of the Bangladesh Labour Law


2006, in every establishment in which, due to
manufacturing processes, there is given off any
dust or fume or other impurity of such a nature
and to such an extent that it is likely to be
injurious or offensive to the workers effective
measures shall be taken to prevent its
accumulation in any workroom and its
inhalation by workers. If necessary, an exhaust
appliance needs to be installed for this
purpose.

Disposal of wastes and effluents
As per section 54 of the Bangladesh Labour Law 2006, effective arrangements
shall be made in every establishment for disposal of wastes and effluents due to
the manufacturing process carried on therein.

Artificial humidification
As per section 55 of the Bangladesh Labour Law 2006, in any establishment in
which the humidity of the air is artificially increased, the water used for the
purpose shall be taken from a public supply, or other source of drinking water,
or shall be effectively purified before it is so used.

Overcrowding

As per section 56 of the Bangladesh Labour


Law 2006, no workroom in any
establishment shall be overcrowded to
such an extent that it may cause injuries
to the workers employed therein.

Lighting

As per section 57 of the Bangladesh Labour


Law 2006, in every part of an
establishment where workers are working
or passing, there shall be provided and
maintained sufficient and suitable lighting,
natural or artificial or both.

Lighting

Lights should be uniform and between 50-60


foot candle (500-600 Lux) in sewing, cutting
and inspection sections.

Sound

The sound level should not be above 85


decibels for a constant period otherwise
workers have to be provided with ear plugs.

Drinking water

As per section 58 of the Bangladesh Labour Law 2006,


in every establishment effective arrangements shall
be made to provide and maintain a sufficient supply
of pure drinking water at a suitable point and
conveniently situated for all workers.

All points shall be legibly marked ‘Drinking Water’ in


Bengali.

Where there are 250 or more workers during the hot


weather, provisions shall be made for cooling the
drinking water.

Oral dehydration therapy shall be provided for those


workers who work near machinery creating excessive
heat.

Latrines and urinals

As per section 59 of the Bangladesh Labour Law


2006, sufficient latrines and urinals of prescribed
types shall be provided conveniently situated and
accessible to workers at all times while they are
in the establishment.

Such latrines and urinals shall be provided


separately for male and female workers.

Spitoons

As per section 60 of Bangladesh Labour Law


2006, in every establishment there shall be
provided a sufficient number of dust bins and
spittoons at convenient places which shall be
maintained in a clean and hygienic condition.

Safety of buildings and machinery

As per section 61 of the Bangladesh Labour Law 2006, if it appears to the


inspector that any building or any part of the walkways, machinery or plant
in an establishment is in such a condition that it is dangerous to human life
or safety, s/he may issue an order to the employer in writing, specifying
the measures which in his / her opinion should be adopted, and which must
be carried out before a specified date.

As per section 62 of the Bangladesh Labour


Law 2006, every establishment shall provide
each floor with:
- at least one alternative stairway
connecting each floor as means of escape
in case of fire; and
- fire-fighting apparatus as may be
prescribed by rules.

- A yellow box or other marking should be


in front of all fire fighting equipments,
control panels, exits and potential fire
source areas indicating areas to be kept
clear at all times.

- Fire evacuation plan to be posted on the


exits of each floor of the factory.

Fire precaution

- There should be at least two exits in every room at opposite sides.


- Exits should be clearly marked, unobstructed and unlocked and easy to
open.
- Fire drills have to be conducted once every month.
- There should be battery operated fire alarms on each floors and
emergency lights placed above exits and stairwells.
- The ratio of fire extinguisher should not be less than 01 per 1000 square
feet and traveling distance from work station to extinguishers should not
be more than 75 feet.
- Fire extinguishers should be of appropriate size so that the workers can lift
it properly. Extinguishers should be checked periodically.
- Fire extinguishers locations should be marked properly and fire
extinguisher operation instructions should be posted with extinguishers in
local language.

First aid appliances and safety record book

As per section 89 of the Bangladesh Labour Law


2006, the number of first aid boxes or cupboards
shall be at least one for every 150 workers
ordinarily employed in the establishment.

As per section 90 of the Bangladesh Labour Law


2006, every establishment having at least
twenty five workers shall maintain a safety
record book and safety board.

Welfare
Washing facilities

As per section 91 of the Bangladesh Labour Law 2006,


in every establishment adequate and suitable facilities
for washing and bathing shall be provided and
maintained for the workers therein.
Separate and adequately screened facilities shall be
provided for the use of male and female workers. Such
facilities shall be conveniently accessible and shall be
kept clean.

As per section 92 of the Bangladesh Labour


Law 2006, in every establishment wherein
more than one hundred workers are
ordinarily employed, there shall be
provided an adequate number of canteens
for the use of the workers.

As per section 93 of the Bangladesh Labour


Law 2006, in every establishment wherein
more than fifty workers are ordinarily
employed, adequate and suitable shelter
or rest rooms shall be provided and
maintained. A suitable lunch room, with
provision for drinking water, where
workers can eat meals brought by them,
shall be provided and maintained for the
use of the workers.
