Risk mapping
The objectives of risk mapping are:
To list workplace hazards

To help prioritise workplace hazards so that measures can be

implemented to control them

To create a map of the potential hazards in the garment factory

Risk mapping builds a diagrammatic overview of the state

of OSH in your factory

Risk mapping: Step 1

Draw a floor plan of the factory or the component
sections/floors, marking as accurately as possible the main
features of the factory

First, deal with the building itself:
windows
exits
ventilation (e.g. roof extractors)
light sources (natural and artificial)
traffic ways

Second: machines, equipment, processes, extinguishers, alarms, signs

Third: note sources of heat, noise, stale air

Risk mapping: Step 2

 List OSH hazards in your factory

 Identify the number of individuals who may be exposed

 Determine the risk rating (consider the severity of the

hazard and the frequency of exposure)

 Evaluate the factory’s prevention and control measures

you can then use the information to help
prepare your Factory Improvement Plan
