Human Values &

Values
The criteria people use to evaluate
actions, people, and events.
 Values require us to depart form orders or
question them when others will be harmed
or wronged
People who epitomize the 5 human
values.
RIGHT CONDUCT
Non-violence
Truth  is what we speak,
Right Conduct  is what we practice,
Love  is what we live,
Peace  is what we give,
Non-violence  is the fruit.

Human values benefit the giver and recipient alike.

When in Doubt “listen to your conscience”.
Ethics is defined as a set of values
that define right and wrong.

the ethics?
Our

What is legal is not necessarily ethical!!
“ What is right is right even if no one is
doing it. What is wrong is wrong even
if everyone is doing it.”

Recognizing the language of
Ethical Dilemnas
 “Everybody else does it.”

 “If we don’t do it, someone else will…”

The violations of copyrights is blatant with
pirated / photoprinted DVD’s and VCD’s being
sold by shopkeepers subscribing to the same
logic.
The language of Ethical Dilemnas..

 “We’ll wait until lawyers tell us we it is

wrong.”

Lawyers are trained only on parameters of

law. In many situations, they offer a “correct”
solution, one that does not violate the law.
The language…
 “It does not really hurt anyone…”
Staged auto accidents and accident claims
may not really harm the insurance companies,
they can afford it.
Someone else pays a higher premium to absorb
these costs.
“the language…”
 “The system is unfair.”

 “I was just following orders”

The Categories of Ethical
dilemmas
 Taking things that don’t belong to you
 Exaggerated travel expenses
 Saying things you know are not true
 Falsely assigning blame
 Giving or allowing false impressions
A coworker or supervisor who takes credit for
another employee’s idea
Ethics is knowing the difference
between what you have a right to do
and what is right to do.
