ADJECTIVES.

We use the adjectives to modify the noun. An adjective can


complement, amply or change the size of the noun. There are
words which add certain information about the subject of the
sentence.
Examples:
A dark street (una calle oscura)
The tall man (El hombre alto)
A cold winter (Un invierno frío)
The glass table (La mesa de vidrio)
Types of adjectives.

1. Descriptive/Qualitative.
Examples:

Young– Red – Nice– Round– Hot– Long– Early– etc…

A young lady walking down the street.


Is the red car yours?
It is going to be a long day.
I know Lila, she is a nice person.

2. Demonstrative.

This – That – These – Those

Examples.
This chair is broken.
That watch is expensive.
These clothes are wet.
Those birds are flying south.

3. Quantatives: these ones modify a noun by indicating a
number/quantity. It can be either cardinal or ordinal number.

Some – Many – Much– Little– A few – Enough – Etc…


Examples.
John completed the whole task.
There is enough juice for my breakfast.
I do not have any chocolates in my bag.
Many girls were expelled from the school.

4. Interrogative:

Which – Who – Where – How – Whose – What - When

Examples.
Which book on proofreading do you recommend?
Whose team scored the higher in the last match?
Where was the place you told me about yesterday?
What recipe did you choose to make this cake?

5. Possessive:

My – Your – His – Her – Its – Our – Their - Your

Examples.
It is none of your business.
I have been with my friends.
Our colleagues work hard.

6. Numeric:

One – Four – Third – First – Etc…

Examples.
Michelle is the second girl in our class.
There are eight oranges in the bowl.
He is going to sell his two cars.
Rules and uses.
1. The adjective is always before the noun, except if you have these
verbs:

To be– To become– To feel– To look– To seem– To smell– To taste

She looks tired.
I feel good.
It smells bad.
You are beautiful.

2. Adjectives have no gender.
3. Adjectives have no plural form except for the demonstrative and the
quantitatives.
4. We can use two or more adjectives together.
Examples.
A small black book.
A pretty Spanish woman.
A large glass table.
A wonderful old city
