Enhancement), it is evident that

engage students in discussions about
topics such as disaster risk reduction
(DRR), climate change adaptation, and
information and communication
technology (ICT).
Existentialism- The K-12 Curriculum
Framework for Senior High School, Gearing
Up for The Future, demonstrates that there is

Rationalism- The DepEd Core
Values of Maka-Diyos, Maka-tao,
Makakalikasan, and Makabansa
are proof that the Department of
Education practices Rationalism, in
which they believe exclusively in
what is founded on reason and
offers the primary basis for
knowledge.
Pragmatism- The K-12
Curriculum Framework, which
focuses on making the
curriculum more relevant to
students (Contextualization and
Enhancement), also
demonstrates the use of
pragmatism as students gain in-
depth knowledge, skills, values,
and attitudes through
consistency and continuity,
allowing them to develop into
better people at all levels.
Rationalism- The applicability of
Rationalism is demonstrated in RA
No. 10533 Sec. 5 on Curriculum
Development, which states that the
curriculum must be relevant,
responsive, and research-based,
as students are gained by reason
rather than the senses.

which is most useful (that which
brings happiness) to the greatest
number of people.
Empiricism-source of knowledge is
through the senses, teacher must
involve the senses in teaching
learning.
Utilitarianism - The DepEd Vision,

utilitarianism, which advocates
actions that promote happiness or
pleasure while opposing actions
that cause unhappiness or harm.

Empiricism - Teachers facilitate
learning and constantly nurture every
learner, according to the DepEd
Vision, demonstrates that DepEd
employs Empiricism, in which
teaching-learning of students is based
on the human senses, and it shares
the belief that there is no such thing as
innate knowledge, and that knowledge
is instead derived from experience.
Utilitarianism - In RA No. 10533 Sec.
5 on Curriculum Development,
there is a demonstration of
Utilitarianism in the provision that
the curriculum shall be culture
sensitive and that the teacher's
approach offers no idea of what
should comprise an education.
Empiricism - In RA No. 10533 Sec. 5
on Curriculum Development, it is
stated that Empiricism is used in the
curriculum, and that the curriculum
shall use constructivist, inquiry-based,
reflective, collaborative, and
integrative pedagogical approaches,
with the teacher involving the senses
in the teaching-learning of the
students to be able to gain knowledge.

knowledge is thing that can be simply deposited by the teacher
into the empty minds of the learners. Thier midsare not empty ,
instead thier minds are full of ideas .

1. Based on your findings and observations in Activity 16.1 and Activity 16.2, which philosophies of
education are dominant in the Philippine basic schools? Why do you say so?

Based from my observations, the dominant philosophy in Philippine education is progressivism. Because
students in the Philippines today primarily learn by doing, teachers merely serve as facilitators of
learning, with students' needs and interests is considered.

2. If there is one philosophy that schools and teachers should give more attention to, what should that be
and why?

I believe that one philosophy that should be given more attention in schools is constructivism, because
learners must be able to construct their own knowledge and develop their own skill, and constructing is
also a way of learning. This will allow them to gain lasting and meaningful knowledge in life. Schools
should not rely solely on books and what is taught to them. They should assist students in broadening their
knowledge.

I believe that the learner should learn through experience and by doing the learning in a real-
world setting.

I believe that I should teach the learners the knowledge, skills, and values that they will need
in life.

By creating an environment that is centered on the needs and interests of the students.
Assisting them in developing the values that they should have in order to become responsible
individuals.

I believe that I will be able to accomplish this with the assistance of others. I should
communicate with those who are involved in this learning process, such as my colleagues,
superiors, parents, and other stakeholders, in order to achieve the goals for my students.
