GLOBALIZATION
WHAT IS GLOBALIZATION?

Globalization is the word used to describe the growing

interdependence of the world's economies, cultures, and populations,
brought about by cross-border trade in goods and services, technology,
and flows of investment, people, and information.
Is Globalization Important? And why?

Globalization changes the way nations, businesses and people

interact. Specifically, it changes the nature of economic activity
among nations, expanding trade, opening global supply chains,
and providing access to natural resources and labor markets.
Pros and Cons
Pros:
 to help each nation have access to more culture, goods,
businesses, and information.

Cons:
 The abuse in power of bigger and more influential countries
and multi corporation.
AUTOMATION &
UNEMPLOYMENT
ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE (AI)
• Is typically defined as the capability of a machine to
imitate intelligent human behavior

• John McCarthy invented the term Artificial

Intelligence in the year 1950.

• Artificial Intelligence (AI) is gaining a lot of traction

lately. This is mainly because it has broken the
bottleneck of human efficiency, reduced repetitive
work and enhanced work efficiency. As a result,
almost every industry in the world is planning to
leverage AI or has already implemented in their
business.
The concern of AI taking over everyone’s job is becoming
increasingly urgent as recent AI breakthroughs attract public
attention. As much as they are playing an important role in
making tasks and processes better, their effect on human-
centered jobs and capabilities in workplace has become a major
debate.
Technological innovations can affect employment in two main ways:
 By directly displacing workers from tasks they were previously performing

(displacement effect.)

 By increasing the demand for labor in industries or jobs that arise or

develop due to technological progress (productivity effect).

As AI progresses, some believe that it will steadily and inevitably take over large sectors of the workforce and

will bring mass-scale unemployment and social unrest. The jobs that most of the people are currently doing

may get obsolete or automated sooner than you think .

UNEMPLOYMENT DUE TO AUTOMATION/AI
 Artificial intelligence has dramatically improved our world in ways
unimaginable, but there are many concerns regarding the impact it can
have on employment and the credibility of workforce. There are
predictions which tell us about the possibility of millions of people facing
unemployment in the next decade due to automation and neural
networks.

 AI and automation could affect or eliminate one-quarter of jobs. As AI

evolves and more task fall into the category of things that can be easily
automated, entire job industries could disappear. Jobs in manufacturing,
agriculture, food service, retail, transportation and logistics and hospitality
tend to top the list of industries likely to be affected by automation. If a
recession is coming, it might accelerate this shift toward automation as
cash-strapped business look for ways to reduce overhead.
THE IMPACT OF ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE

AI is different because it can be applied to virtually any industry.

It will continue in making progress in building more and more
intelligent machines. Artificial intelligence has numerous
benefits if implemented in day to day life by making work easier
and faster. But it is also becoming a cause for unemployment. So
the biggest challenge would be to implement it in such a way
that it doesn't enhance unemployment.
WHY AI WILL CREATE MORE JOBS THAN IT TAKES?
1. The demand for man-machine Hybrid Teams:

- The future of employment will depend on how well humans and AI blend to create
augmented hybrid teams. An AI has strengths such as speed, accuracy, computation, etc. A
human has strength such as empathy, judgment, cognition, etc. This role will combine these
strengths of both AI and humans to generate better business outcomes.

2. Worldwide Employment:

- Companies that effectively implement AI can generate more money for their business.
This, in turn, leads to higher employee wages, better technology tools, and greater efficiency.
With such success, companies can actually spread their reach across the world. As a result, they
will require a global workforce, which again generates huge employment opportunities.
WHY AI WILL CREATE MORE JOBS THAN IT TAKES?

3. AI in Robotics:

- The area of robotics will see massive growth in the next few years. AI-based, and fully
automated aerial drones are gaining significant business interest from companies globally. This
increased demand is bound to open a lot of job roles for AI robotics engineers.

4. AI in Healthcare:

- Healthcare is one area where there is a lot of scope for AI applications. In the near future,
AI-powered healthcare will be available at a scale and on-demand for everyone. Hence, the
requirement for AI-assisted healthcare technician jobs will see an upward surge.
WHY AI WILL CREATE MORE JOBS THAN IT TAKES?

5. AI in Education:

- The education industry is slowly shifting towards e-learning. Concepts such as smart
content, personalized learning, and other data-driven operations depend heavily on AI. For
facilitating such growth, the industry will need to hire plenty of AI machine and machine learning
experts.

6. Automated Transportation:

- Our society will gain countless hours of productivity with just the introduction of AI
influencing our traffic congestion issues not to mention the other ways it will improve on-the-job
productivity. Freed up from stressful commutes, humans will be able to spend their time in a
variety of other ways.
WHY AI WILL CREATE MORE JOBS THAN IT TAKES?

7. AI in the entertainment industry:

- AI algorithms help in recommending media which suits the consumer's
preferences. This is just one of the umpteen use cases that AI offers in this industry.
The industry will therefore definitely hire a huge AI workforce to fulfill all their
requirements.

8. AI in the gaming industry:

- AI plays an indispensable role that is reaping huge rewards for gaming
companies. With virtual reality games becoming highly popular, companies are bound
to invest a lot of money on AI-based systems.
INDUSTRIES IMPACTED BY THE AI REVOLUTION
EDUCATION CHANGES
• Many things point to the need for meaningful change in
education. Change around the world is driven by exciting new
research on how the brain works and how people learn.
Learners must not only develop what they know, but also
skills, attitudes, and values that will help them be capable
people. For this to happen, they need to actively take part in
their learning and be motivated by it.
• We are in the Information Age. New technology that
supports learning is also driving change. New tools allow
students to connect with others all over the world. A
mountain of information is easily accessible with just the click
of a button. The teacher no longer holds all knowledge. They
are now a critical coach, showing students how to select,
work with, add to and apply information in meaningful ways.
GADGETS ( technology)
TECHNOLOGY HELPS US TO:

Technology provides students with easy-to-

access information, accelerated learning,
and fun opportunities to practice what they
learn. It enables students to explore new
subjects and deepen their understanding of
difficult concepts, particularly in some
toughest courses.
ONLINE CLASSES
Advantages of Online Learning/Classes
• Less in cost: The best part of this online learning is it is much more
affordable compared to old-fashioned learning. In digital classes, parents
are free to buy uniforms or spend travelling expenses and can save extra
money. Due to this advantage of online education, economically weaker
students can fulfill their dreams. You should pay for university credits and
save a lot of money with digital classes.

• Time-Saving: In online classes, there is no commute included as a student

can learn and get a degree while sitting at the comfort of their home.
Advantages of Online Learning/Classes
• Tech-savvy: As you are using technology for learning so you can
become tech-savvy by digital learnings. Yet, this is a good thing as in
today’s age of technology most of the jobs require tech-savvy
employees.

• Easy attendance: Students can give their attendance right from the

comfort of their homes. So they can attend all online classes
without any absence.
Advantages of Online Learning/Classes
• Self-paced: Digital learning is often self-paced where you can do your
work in your own time, unlike traditional classes. If there are no teachers,
so you can easily take your own leisure time in finishing your work.

• Less competition & Less intensity: As you see there can be less intense
and less competition in online learning compared to traditional classes.
You have to memorize that the low level of competition makes students
less stressed and more relaxed.
Advantages of Online Learning/Classes
• Improves time management: A student has to learn how to manage their time
efficiently. Digital classes make this possible as there are no teachers to guide the
students physically in doing their work. This independence allows students to grow
and improve their time management abilities.

• More accessible: Location-wise digital education is much more accessible. If a

student wants to study at a particular university from another country or region
but cannot travel due to financial issues or some restrictions, then through digital
education a student can get a degree from that particular university without
having to travel.
PROBLEMS FACED BY STUDENTS IN ONLINE CLASSES.

• Lack of motivation.

• Lack of in-person interaction.

• Lack of discipline.
• Lack of digital literacy.
• Technical issues.
FACE TO FACE CLASSES
The Advantages of Face to Face Learning in the Classroom

 You'll be able to concentrate harder on your learning because

there’ll be less distraction than if you were at home.

 You can gain greater understanding, stories and real-world

examples from teachers and other students

 You have a greater chance of completing your course

successfully by doing it in a classroom situation.
The Advantages of Face to Face Learning in the Classroom

 You may feel more comfortable and learn more easily in a familiar,
traditional classroom situation
 You can access more information and richer understanding through
teacher and other students’ body language and voice.
 You have the opportunity to connect with, problem-solve, and
network with other students from a wide range of backgrounds.
• Many education systems are feeling challenged in having to
prepare students for today's fast-changing world. People
everywhere are grappling with how to engage students in
their learning. Students must develop the knowledge and
skills for today and tomorrow's workplace, further education,
or training.
THE DIGITAL DIVIDE
Life in the information age
INTRODUCTION

• It is easy to forget that we don’t all have access to ICT resources

• The digital divide refers to the gap between the people who have access
to a computer (or a computer connected to the internet) and those who
do not.
• It can refer to individuals, social groups, and communities worldwide.
6 FACTORS WHICH CONTRIBUTE TO THE DIGITAL DIVIDE
THE ECONOMIC FACTOR

• The main reason individuals and communities don’t have access to a

computer or an up-to-date Internet service are economic
• i.e. A lack of money
• Many developing countries struggle to provide adequate telephone
lines
• PC hardware and software is simply too expensive for many people in
the developing world
THE ECONOMIC FACTOR
THE SOCIAL FACTOR

• Originally, the digital divide was attributed to Internet Access

• Now, most people have access to the Internet thanks to

libraries, and Internet cafes etc.
• We now think about the digital divide as those who do, and
those who don’t have the skills to use the internet
appropriately
THE SOCIAL FACTOR

• Many of today’s jobs require ICT skills and qualifications

• People without an education in ICT are at a disadvantage and

are unable to get work
• This is another example of a digital divide
THE GEOGRAPHICAL FACTOR

• Availability of the Internet throughout the world shows large differences

between world regions: http://www.internetworldstats.com/stats.htm
• This can be a result of
• Lack of internet access/infrastructure
• Language
• Culture
THE FEAR OF TECHNOLOGY FACTOR
• Attitudes: Some groups of people feel that ICT is for particular
groups of people:
- The young
- The brainy
- Middle class

•  Cultural attitudes: Some communities place greater importance on:

- Oral culture
- Personal communication
- Kinship
- Strong family values
THE LACK OF MOTIVATION FACTOR
• Many people are not prepared to put in the time and effort to learn
something new
• Some people link ICT with useless activities such as computer game
playing, eyes damage, and other more sinister themes
• Modern Operating Systems (Windows, MacOS) are much easier to
use than they were 15 years ago, however they still require a
certain amount of effort to grasp.
THE CULTURAL FACTOR
• Attitudes: Some groups of people feel that ICT is for particular
groups of people:
• The young
• The brainy
• Middle class
• Cultural attitudes: Some communities place greater importance on:
• Oral culture
• Personal communication
• Kinship
• Strong family values
THE EXTENT OF THE DIGITAL DIVIDE
• The digital divide is a world wide issue, and is not just related
to the gap between people with and without access internet.

• Other contributing factors include:

- Lower-spec PCs
- Low quality internet connections
- Higher-priced Internet connections
- Difficulty with obtaining technical assistance
- Being a member of a community speaking a minority language
- Lower access to subscriber content
BENEFITS AND DRAWBACKS
• Pros
- Increased opportunities for personal, educational
and employment advancement

• Cons
- Expensive
- Technology is outdated very quickly
- Government cut backs due to recession
THE WINNER
TAKE-ALL SOCIETY
We will break this topic into 3 parts:
• The social effects and some examples.
• Why is it important in our society?
• Why it should be that way.
THE SOCIAL EFFECTS AND EXAMPLES
• This is very unfair but a fact in our society. You might even heard the term at least
once in your life. The one who is at the top will get all the prize, money, lavish life,
you name it. They will get all the advantage in life if they play it right while the one
below will get less advantage then the one below him will also get less and so on.
• A businessman who decided to take risk and invest on large company will get
higher stakes while the other businessman who did not will only get so far with
what he got.
• The top millionaire(let’s name him Mr. B) will be billionaire while the hard-
worker(He will be Mr. H) become a millionaire but Mr. H will not defeat Mr. B
because of how far their gap is (assuming Mr. B did not mess up and continues his
streak).
THE SOCIAL EFFECTS AND EXAMPLES
Let’s say a farmer who started from nothing reached his peak of age and he
knows that he will not be able to reach the 7 digits of money in his life his
children might be possible to do so and if they do they have won the life with
head held high.
Even though some people didn’t win the fight for the top of society because
they know they can’t do it they will find a way and made a path so that their
children or successor will be the one who will be the one who will the best
position of their life and not start from the ground-up and do the same as
them and by doing so we know that they WON in life.
THE SOCIAL EFFECTS AND EXAMPLES
Now you are thinking this is completely BS and unfair but it makes sense
considering their choices and upbringing some people fed on golden spoon
upon birth while some people need to work to get hold of a silver spoon
which is why we have the saying “the rich get richer while the poor get
poorer” and that is somewhat a negative to say but that’s just how the world
works it is not filled with rainbows and butterflies and it can be a Motivation
or a Weight on our shoulder depending on how we approach this life/fight for
the top of lavish life.
WHY IS IT IMPORTANT IN OUR SOCIETY?

Let say that everyone has equal salary, position in society, etc.
Everyone is equal...what would our world be? The world will be boring,
monotonous and we will be working like robots running on automatic
and without motivation and aim/point in life. We will be just
continuously working so that we are “alive” because we have equal on
everything and why would you be the best when everyone in the world
is equal.
WHY IT SHOULD BE THAT WAY
Even though it is somewhat unfair it is necessary for us so that the society runs
with innovation and improvements for the future so that the worse or bad will get
better and the people who is below will have the drive to go fight for the top of
society and improve their/our lives and repeating the cycle again. (With the
improvement that come it also comes with another problem/negatives).
There is also some jobs not fitted for the people since each one of us is unique.
Some might got the ‘brain’ and go into the headquarters while some might get
the ‘brawn’ and fight in the battleground, some might have the talent for a certain
job while the other needed hard-work.
