• The tertiary sector is the economic sector that

encompasses activities related to services that are not
producers or processors of material goods. They
generate services that are offered to meet the needs of
any population in the world. It includes activities such
as transportation, communications, trade, tourism,
healthcare and education.
• This sector is important because it is a great source of
employment in society, which greatly benefits the
economy of a country. In addition, it allows organizing,
directing and controlling those activities that are carried
out in the daily life of the population.
 TERTIARY SECTOR IN MADRID
• The Community of Madrid is a region based mainly on tertiary activities, at least
three quarters of its economic activity belongs to services, together with
Catalonia, the Mediterranean coast and the Canary Islands, it shares the highest
concentration of active population dedicated to it. The main sectors of economic
activity in the Madrid area are services: trade, transport, health, social services,
business services, hospitality. In total there are more than 520,000 companies in
the region, which represent about 16% of the national total.

public spending more efficient, since inflation is the worst tax for families, since it has

ocuppied in the tertiary sector. In Spain the tertiary sector has been
developed faster than in other countries of Europe.

the one which produces the most jobs. Is composed of education and
health services, goverment, telecommunications, transport.
How will the tertiary sector develop in the future: in
the most important cities of Spain, like Madrid, Barcelona… Have
created new financial cities like banks that will make the tertiary
sector continue to stand out in Spain.
 WHY IS IMPORTANT THE TERTIARY
SECTOR
• The tertiary sector (service sector) in Spain is very important, since it occupies the highest
percentage of the employed active population, approximately 70% of the employed population is
employed in this sector. It is the basic pillar and the one that sustains the Spanish economy
• The tertiary sector is the most important in the Spanish economy, it is the largest economic activity
in the country and the one that generates the most jobs. This sector is made up of education and
health services, government, telecommunications, transportation, entertainment, insurance,
tourism, retail, etc.
• In fact, tourism alone is responsible for contributing up to three times more money than industries
such as banking or the automotive industry, making Spain the eighth country in the European Union
with the greatest weight of the services sector in its GDP.
• Also, thanks to the tertiary sector, products are provided to consumers, in this way the tertiary
sector brings many economic benefits
• In conclusion, the tertiary sector provides stability to the economy of Spain, therefore, if we had a
problem with the tertiary sector, Spain would have large economic losses and therefore the other
services would also suffer from this problem, causing instability in the country.
