Taking Action to Address the Lack of Technological
Skills among Teachers of Leyte Normal University
/RATIONALE:

The Commission on Higher Education has consistently supported the use


of educational materials to their full potential, especially those that would
improve the teaching-learning process for everyone. Despite the material
help, teachers still lack the technological proficiency. One of the
institutions in the area where teachers employ ICT and technology in the
classroom is Leyte Normal University. Even if they have every tool
required, their lack of technological competence is still obvious. This long-
term strategy intends to develop workable and appropriate solutions to
address the lack of technology proficiency among instructors.

An estimation in a form of an assessment questionnaire will be done
to measure the teachers’ knowledge about ICT tools used in the
classroom. Future projects will depend on the results of this
estimation.

This seminar on modern technology usage will be the guide to
strengthen the teachers’ prior knowledge about the ICT and it’s roles
on the teaching-learning process. This is to prepare the teachers for
more intricate ICT and technology use in the classroom.

The instructors in Leyte Normal University will receive training on for to
successfully use the existing school’s ICT facility and other technological
improvements, as well as the educational software or application that they
can use in giving learning materials. In this workshop, educational
software and applications will be introduced to the teachers, along with the
steps and guidelines on how to operate them.

Teacher training for ICT in education is often outdated and ad hoc. This
program is based on learning needs of teacher identified through a sound
assessment process. This can allow teachers to receive training when
needed. It will provide a more meaningful experience for teachers.

professional development opportunities are lacking. It monitors progress,
