PROCESS AND REACTIONS

OF CELLULAR RESPIRATION
CELLULAR RESPIRATION

• It is a set of metabolic reactions

and processes that takes place
in the cells of organisms to
convert biochemical energy
from nutrients into adenosine
triphosphate.
Types of Cellular Respiration

Glycolysis- is a metabolic
• 1.

pathway that takes place in the

cytosol of cells in all living
organisms. This pathway can
function with or without the
presence of oxygen.
• 2. Citric Acid(KrebsCycle)- or the
tricarboxylic acid cycle. When
oxygen is present,acetyl-CoA is
produced from the pyruvate
molecules created from
glycolysis.
3.Electron tranport chain-
The potential energy from
the proton gradient is not
used to make ATP but
generates heat.
Definition
A. Cellular Respiration – the controlled release
of energy in the form of ATP
-can be aerobic of anaerobic
B. ATP- Adenosine Triphosphate
-A chemical that can diffuse to any part of
the cell and release energy.
PROCESS OF RESPIRATION
Introduction
• The energy from the sun trapped by plants is
obtained by other organisms such as animals.
• The plants and animal carry out the chemical
energy of food molecules that is released and
partially captured in the form of ATP
(adenosine triphosphate).
Process of Cellular
Respiration
• Food ( glucose) is broken down into CO2 and
H2O and energy is released
• C6,H12,O6+6O2>6CO2+6H2O+ENERGY ( ATP )
• This energy can be used for:
-keeping a constan body temperature
-storage ( ATP ) – To be use
The Reaction of Cellular
Respiration
• All living things require energy from food
• The primary energy molecule is glocuse
• The process of Cellular Respiration convert the
energy in glocuse into ATP for use by the cell

glocuse + oxygen >> carbon dioxide + water +energy stored in ATP
