Medical Translation Definition

Medical Translation: it is the translation of medical documents

that encompass a wide range of disciplines such as pharmacy,
dermatology, dentistry, physiology, genetics, and ophthalmology.

Types of Content in Medical Translation

1. Medical records 6. Medical files

2. Medical supplies 7. Clinical tests
3. Reports for insurance 8. Scientific publications
4. Medical reports 9. Scientific research
5. Medical records 10. Academic papers
Factors Caused Sustainable Development of Medical
Translation

1. Patient-centred care (PCC)

2. Personalized medicine (PM)

3. Translational medicine (TM)

All three bring to the fore the importance of information transfer,

recontextualisation and communication, and therefore offer potential
niches for translators and interpreters. (Montalt, etal, 2018)
Evolution of Medical Translation

Previously, medical translation included:

 The translation of medical terminology and concepts.

 The translation of prescribed medicine.

Medical translation covers three main larger areas such as:

 education of health professionals, patients’ education, popularisation,

and the media,
 professional profiles of medical translators, the training of medical
translators,
 and improvement of clinical communication through translation and
mediation.
Challenges Facing Medical Translators

 New medicines are invented continuously. Therefore,

medical translators should refresh their knowledge about
medical terminologies.
 Language and cultural barriers are sometimes challenging
for medical translator, especially in conservative families
whose females are too hesitant to reveal the exact cause of
these illness.
 Despite a certificate, MT need to have medical experience
and background to avoid mistranslation.
