What is Speech Context?
• It refers to a situation or environment that
brings people to conversation or a
speaking event. This involves a particular
time and place of communication.

Intrapersonal Communication
• It is when the person communicates
with his or her inner self.
Dimensions of "Self" (Steinberg, 2007)
• The Physical self is the material body with its internal
functions and outward appearance.
• The Emotional self is the affective side of people.
• The Intellectual self is the cognitive part of a human
being.
• The Moral self is the ethical beliefs and values observed
by people
Interpersonal Communication
• It is a type of of speech context that
involves communication with other
people, which may take place face-to-face
or through social or new media like video
conference, chat room, email, etc.
Dynamics of Interpersonal
Communication
• Dyad - It consists of two people who are
formally or informally interacting with each
other verbally and nonverbally.
• Small Group - It is a common communication
that involves three up to twenty people.
Public Communication
• It is a speaker-audience
communication that involved
addressing a large audience.
Mass Communication
• It refers to the use of mass media,
including digital media and new media or
social media to reach a larger audience
spread out in different places at the same
time.
