 Introduction
• When we talk about “Radio”certain things emerges in our mind basically what is Radio?How radio has
helped the society as the only source of communication in the old time!Radio is the transmission and
reception of electromagnetic waves  of radio frequency,specially that contain sound messages.
• FOUNDING FATHERS OF RADIO
• Radio was introduced in 1890s by Guglielmo Marconi,spanned many decades from theoretical underpinning,
through proofs of phenomenon existence.The discovery of electromagnetic waves and radio waves were
made by Heinrich in 1880s. It nearly took ten years to develop first apparatus for long distance
communication.   On 23 december 1990 canadian inventor Reginald became first person to send audio
electromagnetic waves,six years later christmas eve 1906 first person make first public radio broadcast.
ROLE OF RADIO AROUND WORLD
AND IN PAKISTAN

• •Radio a low cost and a powerful tool of communication has specially suited to reach the remote community
and vulnerable people with lower level of literacy ,understanding and disabilities. Consultation process
started in june 2011 by UNESCO, where they added all broadcasters ,stakeholders ,NGOS as permanent
delegation of National Commision.Radio as being the only source of communication has played a vital role in
society and all around the world.The role of radio can be channelized  by in different term according to the
situation and times.The strength radio has given to the society by approaching people,giving news,sharing
views is major point of radio.
• RADIO PAKISTAN
• •Radio pakistan started its broadcasting service with a tremendous news of independence of Pakistan by
british india on 14 August 1947.Mustafa Ali Hamdani who was the radio jockey at that time announced the
news with such words and zeal.
•   “Greeting pakistan broadcasting service.We are speaking from lahore. The night between
13th and 14th of August   year forty seven.It’s twelve  O'clock .Dawn of Freedom”
• With mass media radio is the widest audience reaching platform.The role of radio during war of
independence can be recognized by its tremendous news casting services.The way of broadcasting is very
unique and different the radio jockey presents the news with such affection and joy that its feels very good to
hear it.The services of radio pakistan are undoubtedly remarkable,how they played the national songs during
wars and appreciated our soldiers and promoted patriotism in the nation through there technique to make
people more vigilant and participate for their   independence.Indeed radio pakistan itself played a vital role in
the time of need.
• ROLE OF RADIO DURING WAR
• Radio was the cheapest form of entertainment and it was the most popular medium during World War .Citizen
were reached through radio to contribute in wars and pay efforts in order to earn their freedom.Radio played a
vital role during the times of war as people were able to receive news and updates regarding the borders and
the situation which was going on around the world.People use to know about war situation damages and the
areas which were invaded during the attacks.As the matter of fact everyone was curious to know about the
current state situation radio provided that platform to the people by enabling them to receive updates.
 ROLE OF PROPAGANDA
• During the war and after the world war .It helped to accelerate the development of the war and hastened
accelerate the development of the war and hasten actually fighting.As radio has a great impact on general public
it helped as an engine as a mean of communication to the people.Bringing information to the people ,the
damages and the war strategies were discussed in radio programmes.The session were held to promote peace
and to discuss different enemies potentials while attack.In America broadcasting service was offered 24 hours a
day in and effort to keep citizen engaged and 90% percent of American families bought radio at the time of
world war.
• Suspension of Radio
• During world war civilians  radio activities were suspended.The radio industry were taken down by the
government.Numerous military applications were developed including direct communications with
aeroplanes .The reason behind the suspension of radio was that American suspected that radio was used against
them ,for spying purposes and exporting personal information which they thought as a major reason ahead
towards there victory but this was a baseless hysteria of American .There were also legitimate concerns ,one
case reported in “remarkable radio outfit build by  german spy”,which appeared in the june 1917 electrical
experiment.After the war ended ,Pierre H.Boucheron reviewed radio espionage and counter espionage in
guarding the ether during the war from september .Later on the service were resumed.
 STRENGTH OF RADIO
• Exploitation to its strength to come up with its future relevant programs. Radio broadcasting is such a
powerful medium therefore its potential for communication is very great. All transmission mediums have its
own strength and these qualities determine any mediums future success.The strength of radio might be a blind
medium considering the fact that one can only listen to it but it has the potential to reach a large number of
people by informing, educating, persuading and entertaining. Radio is a personal indulgence as the one has
direct contact with the radio and it can have greater impact and involvement in ones daily activities.It
provides for people as a form of relaxation and entertainment, diverting them from their troubles, anxiety and
stress at work. For radio to play such an important part in peoples lives, it has to possess that personality. And
this all lies in the deejay, the warmth, the compassion, the anger, the pain and the laughter. Radio is a
convenient and generally credible information source. In radio, there is no way for a listners opinion to be
influenced by other people.People always want to hear the unusual, the latest, the sensational, the stars, both
well known and entertaining identities, spectacles and events, people stories and public interest stories
involving what, when ,why, where and all these direct from radio programs. Public can generally chose to
listen or disregard material offered.Another important strength of radio has always been its portability.All a
listeners needs is a transistor radio which allows people to tune in outside the home where people have less
contact with radios audiovisual competitors. On the whole, I would say that radiois a very flexible and a
convenient medium.
 ROLE AND USES OF RADIO
• Radio is of great use to us as we can hear the news from all parts of the word seated comfortably in our
homes.It also gives us a lot of entertainment  by its musical programmes.Radio is of great benefit to traders as
they came to know of the of the latest prices of different varieties of things through it.It also tells us correct
time and upcoming weather forecast.You can also listen to radio while doing work it will not gonna affect
your work or  grab your attention.Thus, it's a great use to everyone of us
• USES OF RADIO IN DIFFERENT FIELDS
• Military Communication
• The history of radio in military communication is long and complex as radio waves are used to communicate
and send important messages with order, locations and critical information.During world war 2 the coded
message were send over radio became increasingly sensitive as the opposing enemy forces tried to intercept
and decode the personal military information
• Personal Communication
• Radio are very popular for personal and recreational use that they were often regulated or banned the coast
guard and rescue crews has their own frequency and restrict personal use on those channels.
• Radio Broadcast
• The radio broadcast was among the first uses of radio waves and it remains the part of our daily life.Radio delivers
talk shows, music stations and general news.You can see FM and AM are available around -the-clock for news
and general entertainment.
• Radio for Advertisement
• Programmes which are heard on any regular broadcast is typically sponsored by advertisers you will hear
commercials with regularity on most radio stations.

• Radio is consider the most important source of Mass communication. Radio has played a vital role in social
development in our society.

• Back then as we all know that radio was the only source of information so through radio talk shows, adverts and
other programs, people gained knowledge come to know about the situation around the globe.
• EDUCATION
• Through radio drama, aired on radio were social members were able to draw  lessons. Documentaries on
agriculture and health sectors has a deep impact on society.
• ENTERTAINMENT
• As we know all over the world when there were no communicational technologies. Radio was the only source
of entertainment, so people enjoyed radio dramas and programs.
• WATCHDOG AND SURVEILLANCE
• Radio reporters follow up society issues regarding politics, religion and reported packs, society through bulletin.
• Radio can mobilized society for action during the time of disaster to prevent them. Radio can be proved  a
powerful source during war times like it did before in world war I and war II. Through radio programs and all
the radio itself has provided  the people with useful information during the time of needs.
