Lucknow, 23rd June 2020: In what appears to be another case of patchy safety record

of Indian Railways, at least 15 people were killed and over 60


injured on Sunday when thirteen coaches of the Haridwar
bound Puri Express Train derailed Khatauli at at

around 3:20p.m in Uttar Pradesh’s Muzaffarnagar. The


train was en route from Puri to Haridwar.

EXPLANATION
The District Magistrate of Muzaffarnagar oversaw the rescue and relief efforts which were
carried out by two battalions of NDRF, fourteen fire and rescue units of Muzaffarnagar and
adjoining districts as well as the locals. The rescuers had a hard time getting to the injured
as seven bogies of the ill-fated train had piled on each other and the whole wreck was a
tangled mass of metal.
The immediate response team of the railways at new Delhi was also alerted and a rescue
train with doctors and medical staff was dispatched to the spot. The injured were admitted
at Muzaffarnagar Medical College.
According to some eyewitness accounts, the train was travelling at high speed and the
loco pilot seemed unaware of the repair work in progress on the track. It was alleged that
the accident occurred owing to the carelessness and lack of proper communication
between the authorities and the track maintenance department.

Our school organised “Melody Shades” a week-long music and dance festival, from
the 18th of August to the 26th of August 2020 at the Saraswati Kala Mantapa of our
school. Nine senior secondary schools of Ambur participated in the music and dance
extravaganza. The inaugural function held on 18th August was presided over by Sh.
Muttukrishnan, honourable minister of state for culture and youth affairs .

It was a great celebration of music and dance which saw a wide variety of Indian, classical
and folk as well as western music and dance forms. during this week-long festival, many
competitions, workshops, symposiums and open forums featuring leading artists were
conducted.

The audience including students, teacher, educators as well as invited dignitaries


witnessed live concerts from leading musicians and stage shows by reputed dancers in
Bharatanatyam, Kuchipudi and folk artists.

On the concluding day of this festival, a two-hour-long programme displaying a unique


fusion of classical and western dance and music was put up. Speaking on the occasion
the chief guest of the function and Dist. Collector Sh. Vimal kumar said that programmes
like this remind us of our rich tradition and the need to protect and nurture it. The fest was
a treat and delight for all music and dance lovers and was the highlight of our effort.
Seeing the huge success of this fest our Principal assured us that attempts would be
made to organise the event on a regular basis.
