NI’s Going Green Policy

• To make NI Indonesia’s leading ‘Go Green’ private infrastructure

development company
• Review the environmental and social impacts at project inception
along with technical feasibility and commercial viability
• Reduce GHG emissions and lower the company and individuals
carbon footprint.
• Calculation of GHG emissions of BUs and projects
• Offset GHG emissions with a tree-planting program starting in
Makassar
GHG emissions from other sources in NI

Item CO2E t
• MUN annual GHG emissions from toll road users 2022 119,015
• MUN estimated emissions from road users 2027 128,270
• Estimated annual emissions from all NI offices and staff 1,230
• Estimated annual emissions from project operations 300
• Estimated total NI annual GHG emissions in 2027 129,800
• To offset this, some 2,734 ha of forest needs to be planted,
• Equivalent to between 4 and 5 million trees

Makassar tree-planting Program

• On average one tree absorbs 25 kg carbon (C) a year equivalent to 28

kg CO2E.
• To offset MMN’s GHG emissions in Makassar for 2022 of 43,000 t
CO2E will require the planting of 1.5 million trees (43,000 x 1,000/28)
• At a planting density of 1,500 trees/ha, this will require 1,024 ha of
land.
• Where can this land be found in and around Makassar City?
• Need to ‘partner’ with the local government and Ministry of Forestry
and Environment
• To purchase, plant and maintain one tree for a year costs around US$
1 although this can vary by +/- 20%
NI Go Green Initiatives

• Tree planting GHG offsetting program

• Development of green smart buildings – new BSD office
• Chemical-free bulk clean water treatment – Bitung & Manado SPAM
• Power and energy saving strategies on all projects
• Paperless and contactless transactions on toll roads
Summary

• The Go Green initiative is well-bedded in NI’s culture but there is still

some way to go before we can claim to be Indonesia’s leading Go
Green private infrastructure development company
• As a company with multiple BUs and projects, our carbon footprint
from operations is relatively small.
• The users of our toll roads contribute the greatest (>95%) GHG
emissions and we need to offset these to achieve carbon neutrality.
• It is suggested that the BOD of MUN considers sponsoring a suitable
tree-planting program Makassar
