The following presentation was created to show with more clarity,
the components on the HPSOV associated with the lock-out
procedure. This material is to be used as a training guide.

You must follow the procedures stated within the current revision of
the MEL.

Lock the HPSOV in the closed position (AMM 36-00-00/901).

1. Gain access to the HPSOV.

WARNING: BE SURE FAN COWL PANELS AND CORE COWL


PANELS ARE OPENED IN SEQUENCE REQUIRED BY
MAINTENANCE MANUAL 78-31-00 BEFORE THE FAN DUCT
COWL AND THRUST REVERSER ARE OPENED. FAILURE TO
FOLLOW MAINTENANCE MANUAL COULD RESULT IN INJURY TO
PERSONNEL AND/OR DAMAGE TO FAN COWL, CORE COWL,
FAN DUCT AND THRUST REVERSER.

2. Remove the locking pin from the cap on the end of the HPSOV
actuator.

CAUTION: REMOVAL OF LOCKING PIN FROM STOWED POSITION


PROVIDES VENTING FOR THE VALVE. IF PIN IS NOT
REMOVED, VALVE DAMAGE MAY RESULT.

3. Turn the manual override hex nut until the position indicator is in the
closed position.

4. Insert and screw tight the locking pin in the locking hole in the
bellcrank arm.

5. For a fault in the closed position switch, fabricate and install a
shorting connector to prevent illumination, at high thrust settings, of
the associated engine BLEED light and L(R) ENG HPSOV advisory
message (SSM 36-11-07 and SSM 36-11-08).

This shorting plug
can be found in the
Fly Away Kit in the
bulk cargo
compartment.

NOTE: This procedure will not preclude similar indications caused
by wiring faults.
Disconnect connector D24 from high pressure controller M495.

Install shorting connector onto D24.

Cap and stow connector D24.

If installing the shorting plug, make mention in rectification remarks


“shorting plug installed.” This will aid the person clearing the MEL
during the rectification.

CF6-80C2:

Notify dispatch. Flight operations may be affected.

Lock the HPSOV in the closed position, and deactivate and secure the
associated thrust reverser in the forward thrust position (AMM 36-00-
00/901). Thrust Reverser MEL will be opened on a separate defect.

1. Gain access to the HPSOV.

2. Remove the locking pin from the cap on the end of the HPSOV
actuator.

3. Turn the manual override hex nut until the position indicator is in the

5. Deactivate the thrust reverser using MEL Item 78-31-01 (M#)
procedure. (Separate Defect required)

6. For a fault in the closed position switch, fabricate and install a


shorting connector to prevent illumination, at high thrust settings,
of the associated engine BLEED light and L(R) ENG HPSOV
advisory message.

Disconnect connector D10984 from high pressure controller M7191.

Install shorting connector onto D10984.
