Ideas for activities to do at home

o Look at the clouds, children could sketch clouds if you like. How did Little Elf feel
about the big green cloud above the forest? How did they feel when it first arrived? Did
that change as time went on? What things did Little Elf worry about staying at home?
What things could he do that he would enjoy? How did the grown up Elf’s feel about
the cloud? Did they change what they were doing? How can Little Elf and the grown up
Elf’s help to get rid of the cloud? What will happen when the cloud goes away?
o Sit under a tree and pretend they are the Little Elf and share stories of what they have
been doing in lockdown, what has been good and what has been not so good, hopes and
fears for the future, how they feel about not being in school.
Ideas for in school
o The ideas for home based activities can easily be adapted to do in school.
o Children to draw their own tree to put on display. Children to write their own names and
names of their friends who have not returned to school on the trees to build sense of
togetherness. This could be shared with children at home over zoom or email.
o Children write messages of encouragement (for both children in their bubble and those
at home) on white clouds and display above the trees on display.
o Children to choose a character from the story and write a diary entry as that character
sharing how they might feel.
o I’ve created some work sheets over the next few slides. I’m sure you can think of lots
more things to do too. Or just tell the story and then give the children an opportunity to
simply talk. Children not returning to school could be asked to send in work to add to
the display ideas above and could be sent the worksheets as well.
