DEMONSTRATION

OBJECTIVES:

 Discussed the definition of demonstration;


 Described the characteristics of demonstration as a
teaching strategy;
 Enumerate the steps in using demonstrations strategy; and
 Name the advantages and disadvantages of using
demonstration strategy
What is DEMONSTRATION?
 According to Chen, Zhu, Mason, Hammond-Bennett, and Colombo-
Dougovito in 2016 “teaching physical education and health can be more
effective if teachers use demonstration as a strategy’
 DEMONSTRATION comes from the word demos means to
PERFORM an ACTIVITY or CONCEPT
 It is often used when the pupils find difficulty in connecting theories to
actual practice or when they cannot understand the application of the
theories.
 The teachers will show to the pupils how to do certain activities or
routines
POINTS TO BECOME SUCCESSFUL IN
USING DEMONSTRATION
 Teachers should use Learning materials that is big enough
for all the pupils to see.
 Teachers should need to consider the language that he/she
will use.
 Pupils should be allowed to ask questions to the teacher
regarding to the ideas presented
CHARACTERISTICS of DEMONSTRATION
STRATEGY (Ryan, Maina, and Mokgwathi, 2016
 It has a clear goals and objectives.
1. Stating the objective is essential.
2. A clear direction on what to demonstrate could help the pupils to
understand and master the presented concept.
3. It will lead to a successful teaching and learning process.
 It is well-planned strategy
1. Requires preparation and planning before implementation.
2. Teachers needs to study and master the concept presented to the class.
3. Practice and trial are necessary to identify the possible problems.
 Do demonstration in a simple manner.

1. Teachers need to remember that they conduct activities to help the pupils understand the concept.
Hence, the have to make sure demonstration is done in a simple manner.
2. Avoid presenting demonstration activities that result confusion among pupils that may lead to the
misconception of the concept
 Attention must be given to all pupils.

STEPS USING DEMONSTRATION

STEP 1. PLANNING AND PREPARATION


 Have a thorough mastery of the subject matter;
 Create a well planned instructional plan
 Collect necessary and relevant instructional materials; and
 Practice the demonstration
STEP 2. INTRODUCTION OF THE LESSON
 Proper introduction of the lesson must be done.
 Bare in mind the pupils’ differences, the environment, and experience.
 Can introduce the activity by asking real-life questions.
STEP 3. PRESENTATION OF THE SUBJECT MATTER
 The integral part of the subject matter.
 Must have the masteral of the topic.
 Keep in mind the importance of reflection.
 Mastery of the subject

STEP 4. DEMONSTRATION PROPER


 Must make sure the that everything is ready
 Place and materials are prepared well.
 Ideal to the pupils.
 Organized and clean.
STEP 5. INSTRUCTIONAL SUPPORT
 It is needed by the teachers.
 Teachers must prepare instructional support like sports equipment, the place where the demonstration
occur, other materials essential to the activity

STEP 6. EVALUATION
 The end and essential part of demonstration activity.
 It will tell if the teachers it they are successful or not.
 It will show the strength and points that need improvement in part of the execution.
 It provides reflection on how demonstration will improved.
ADVANTAGE OF DEMONSTRATION

 It allows the pupils to have more depth-in learning of the concept.


 It engages and motivates the pupils to maintain activeness in the teaching and learning
process.
 It leads to the mastery of concepts or skills.
 It creates interest among pupils.
 It promotes reflective thinking.
 It arouses discovery and creativity among pupils.
DISADVATAGES OF USING
DEMONSTRATION
 It can be costly and expensive due to the needed instructional support.
 It requires time to plan and prepare, particularly during the activity’s rehearsal before the
actual presentation.
 Many inexperienced teachers are teaching the subject, and sometimes there is mismatch
between the teacher’s specialization and the nature of the subject handled.
