What is Budget ?

 An estimate of income and expenditure for a set period of time.


 Budget include planned sales volumes and revenues, resource
quantities, costs and expense ,assets, liabilities and cash flows.
 The general objective of the union budget is to bring about a rapid
and balanced economic growth of our country coupled with social
justice and equality.
What is railway budget?

 Railway budget of India was the Annual Financial Statement of the


state-owned Indian Railways, which handles rail transport in India.
It was presented every year by the Minister of Railways,
representing the Ministry of Railways, in the Parliament.
 In Railways, the Finance Minister said that ‘One Station-One
Product’ concept will be popularized to help local businesses &
supply chains. Moreover, as a part of Atmanirbhar Bharat, 2,000 km
of network will be brought under Kavach, the indigenous world-
class technology for safety and capacity augmentation in 2022-23.
She also informed that four hundred new-generation Vande Bharat
Trains with better energy efficiency and passenger riding experience
will be developed and manufactured and one hundred PM
GatiShakti Cargo Terminals for multimodal logistics facilities will
be set up during the next three years.
History of railway

 The Railway Budget was presented every year, a few days before
the Union budget, till 2016. Modi government on 21 September
2016 approved merger of the Rail and General budgets from next
year, ending a 92-year-old practice of a separate budget for the
nation’s largest transporter. Railways Minister Suresh Prabhu said
that his merger proposal was in the long term interest of railways as
well as the country’s economy
 John Matthai presented the first Railway Budget for independent
India on 20th November 1947 which was interim Railway Budget
and only after 3 months he presented his second Railway Budget on
24th February 1948 where revised estimates showed a fall in
earnings of about 8 crores rupees as compared with the budget
estimates
Who handle the railway budget?

The charge and the responsibility of the India's rail


transport is taken care by the Ministry of Railways
of the country . The ministry looks after the state
owned Indian Railways which is headed by the
Chairman of the railway Board. The Railway
Minister prepares and presents the Rail budget every
year in the parliament. 

Ashwini Vaishnav is the newly appointed Railway


Minister of India. Piyush Goyal from BJP was the
Railway Minister before Ashwini Vaishnav took
charge of the ministry, after the  cabinet re-shuffling.
How many Amount is provided to railway
budget ?(2022-23)

 The budgetary allocation to Indian railway for 2022-23 stood


Rs14cr which is 27.5% higher than the budgetary allocation of
Rs11cr in 2021-22 or 16.19% more than the revised estimate of 12cr
Scope of Indian Railway

 Indian Railway, called as the ‘lifeline of the Nation’ with a history of 150 years is known to
be the largest Railway network in Asia and world’s largest railway system under a single
management, which offers various career growth opportunities to their employees.
 Indian Railway is Indian state – owned network which is operated and control by ministry
of Railway, Government of India.
 Indian Railways is divided into 4 zones – North Railway, East Railway, South Railway and
west Railway.
 Salary in Indian railway is various post to post
 They are also provided with a range of benefits and allowances like housing facilities,
medical expenses and dearness allowance.

 Finance minister said railway will develop new product and


efficient logistics service for small farmers and small and medium
enterprises, besides integratin integration of postal and railways
network to provide seamless solution for movement of parcel.
 As a part of atma nirbhar bharat, 2000km of new network will be
brought under kavach, the indigenous world class for safety and
capacity augmentation in 2022-23.
 FM minster said new 400 new generation Vande bharat trains with
better energy efficiency and passenger riding experience will be
developed and Manufactured during next 3 years.
Mass Urban transport including connectivity
to Railways

 FM said innovative ways of financing and faster implementation


will be encouraged for building metro systems of appropriate type
at scale.
 Multimodal connectivity between mass urban transport and railway
station will be facilitated on priority.
 She said design of metro systems, including civil structures, will be
re-orinted and standardized of Indian conditions and needs.

 A outly of ₹19,130cr has been made in the budget for metro


Projects across India
 In November, 2021, Union minister Hardee singh puri had said that
723 km of metro network was operational in 18 cities, and addition
over 1000KM of network under construction in various cities.
 Separately six new proposals were also being evaluated.
Region rapid transit system for NCR

 In a major boost to regional connectivity in NCR, government of India has


allocated ₹4,710 cr to country’s (RRTS) project.
 This amount will be used for speedy implementation of 82.15 km Delhi-
Ghaziabad-meerut RRTS corridor.
 This corridor will have 25 stations, including two despots and stabling yard.
 This is joint venture of government of India(50%), state governments of
Haryana(12.5%), Delhi(12.5%), Uttar Pradesh(12.5%) and rajasthan(12.5%).
