MARTIN LUTHER KING JR DAY:
Martin Luther King Jr. Day (officially Birthday of Martin
Luther King, Jr., and sometimes referred to as MLK Day)
is a federal holiday in the United States marking the
birthday of Martin Luther King Jr. It is observed on the
third Monday of January each year.
The law that proposed this holiday was proposed after
King’s death and it was signed signed in 1983 by
president Reagan but only in 2000 this holiday was
observed by all the 50 states. This festivity is also
celebrated at Hiroshima ,in Canada and Netherlands.
GROUNDHOG DAY

The “Groundhog Day” is a popular North


American tradition celebrated in the United
States and in Canada on February 2.It derives
from the Pennsylvania Dutch superstition that
if a groundhog emerging from its burrow on
this day sees its shadow due to clear weather,
it will retreat to its den and winter will persist
for six more weeks; if it does not see its
shadow because of cloudiness, spring will
arrive early.
PRESIDENT’S DAY/WASHINGTON’S DAY:
Presidents’ Day, officially Washington’s Birthday, (third Monday in February) is
popularly recognized as honoring George Washington and Abraham Lincoln.
The day is sometimes understood as a celebration of the lives of all U.S.
presidents. The federal holiday honoring Washington was originally
implemented by an Act of Congress in 1879 for government offices in
Washington and expanded in 1885 to include all federal offices .As the first
federal holiday to honor an American president, the holiday was celebrated on
Washington's birthday under the Gregorian calendar, February 22.Then the
federal holiday was shifted to the third Monday in February. The first attempt to
create a Presidents Day occurred in 1951, and in the mid-1980s, with a push
from advertisers, the term "Presidents' Day" began its public appearance.
MEMORIAL DAY

Memorial day is a celebration in which the


united states of America. commemorate the
soldiers who fell in the war, paying homage to
them. it is traditional on this day to put the flag
of the united states. at half-auction from dawn
until noon. people visit cemeteries and
monuments to honor those who have died in
military service.
INDEPENDENCE DAY
Independence day commemorates the adoption of the
declaration of independence of the united states of
America on July 4th 1776.
On this day the celebrations come through fireworks,
parades,
barbecues, picnics and other activities in which people get
together with friends and family to enjoy their favorite
foods, listen to music and have fun.
To celebrate this holiday, the post offices ,the federal
offices and the banks remain closed, while the military
bases, at noon precisely, organize the "salute to the union",
that is, gunshots are fired for those who are members of
America.
LABOR DAY
Labor day is a holiday in the USA celebrated
on the first Monday of September to honor the
Americans labor movements and the works and
contributions of laborers to the development of
the United States .It was born in the late 19th
century when the labor movements grew and
the trade unionists proposed that a day be set
aside to celebrate labor. "Labor Day" was
promoted by the Central Labor Union and the
Knights of Labor which organized the first
parade in New Your City . In 1887, Oregon was
the first state of the United States to make it an
official public holiday.
COLUMBUS DAY

Columbus Day is a national holiday, which


celebrates the anniversary of Cristopher
Columbus' arrival in the Americas on October
12, 1492. Many Italian-Americans observe
Columbus Day as a celebration of their
heritage, and the first such celebration had
already been held in

VETERAN’S DAY

Veteran’s day is celebrated every November 11°,it is an


American holiday established to honor military and the
armed forces who served America during the war,this
holiday was established after the first world war,in
1919.In particular this holiday is to honor those who
demonstrated loyalty,devotion and courage fighting for
the homeland.
HALLOWEEN

This holiday was brought by the scottish


and irish in north America. The origin of
the name comes from ‘All hallows Eve’.
Halloween is linked to the traditions of
‘trick or treat’ ,where children ask for
sweets door to door.
THANKSGIVING

Thanksgiving is a national holiday celebrated in the


United States,Canada,Liberia,Grenada and Saint
Lucia.It is celebrated on various dates:on the fourth
Thursday of November in the
USA,Liberia,Grenada and Saint Lucia and on the
second Monday of October in Canada.
Thanksgiving was born in 1621 to celebrate the
colony's first successful harvest by the English
colonist.Now it is celebrated as a day of giving
thanks and sacrifice for the blessing of the harvest
and of the preceding year.
BLACK FRIDAY

“Black Friday” is a colloquial term for the “Friday


following Thanksgiving day in the USA”. It has
existed since 1952 and it has been regarded as the
beginning of the United States Christmas shopping
season .In facts, many stores offer highly promoted
sales on Black Friday and they open very
early .However, the exact origin of the term “Black
Friday” remains uncertain: a lot of people think that it
refers to the annotations on the books of traders who
went from red (losses) to black (earnings), so Black
Friday would indicate a day of great gains for
commercial activities.
