Topic-Landforms And Water Bodies

The landforms are developed by two types of forces they are
Endogenic forces and exogenic forces

Endogenic forces-the forces which originate from within the earth are
called endogenic forces or tectonic forces. These forces create
irregularities on the earth’s surface.

Exogenic forces-the forces which originate on the earth’s surface are

called exogenic or gradational forces. These forces modify the
irregularities created by the endogenic forces. They continuously wear
down and rebuild the land surface

The three major landform are

Mountains
Plateaus
Plains
The presence of water is A unique feature of our planet. About 71% of the earth’s
surface is covered with water

Water is found in oceans, seas, bays, gulfs, lakes and rivers

Oceans- the large water bodies are called oceans. The total amount of water on the
earth’s surface is estimated to be about 1250 million cubic kilometres. About 97% of
sea this water is in the oceans. The four major oceans are pacific oceans, the Atlantic
ocean, the Indian ocean, and the arctic ocean.

Seas- seas are large bodies of salt water, which are parts of an ocean. They are
smaller than an ocean and are generally attached to A continent

Lakes- lakes are depressions on the land surface, where water has accumulated.
They vary in size, shapes, depth and mode of formation. They are fed either by
surface water or groundwater, or both.

Rivers- river are streams of water which originate from highlands. They flow
continuously in channels and finally drain into lakes or seas
The major landform are
Mountains
Plateaus
Plains

Mountains- the significance of mountains are-

• They help in the condensation of moisture by forcing the winds to rise
• They act as an effective barrier against cold and hot winds
• Rivers which originate from the mountains provide water throughout the
year.
Plateaus- the significance of plateaus are-
• The grasslands in the plateaus region are used for cattle and sheep rearing
• The plateaus are generally rich in mineral recourses. Thus mining is the
chief occupation in such areas.
• Farming is carried out on a limited scale in the plateaus region due to poor
relief, low temperatures and less rainfall
Plains-the significance of plains are-
• Plains have fertile soil and longer growing season. Thus, they are suitable
for agriculture.
• The flat land surface facilitates the construction of roads and railways,
therefore transportation is well developed in the plains
• The flat, fertile land along with well-developed transportation system favour
the growth of big cities and towns in the plains
The presence of water is A unique feature of our planet.

The significance of water bodies are-

Oceans-
• They are the main source of moisture in the atmosphere
• The modify the temperature of the costal areas
• They are the storehouse of minerals and various chemicals
Rivers-
• They provide fresh water for domestic and industrial use
Sea • They provide water for irrigation
• They have formed fertile alluvial plains which are suitable for agriculture
Kinds of landforms

Plains-plains are flat and low-lying lands

Mountains–mountains are huge landmasses which rise

more than 900 metres

Plateaus-plateaus are highlands with steep slopes, and a

flat and summit area
Kinds of waterbodies

Oceans-the largest waterbodies are oceans

Rivers-rivers are streams of water which

originate from highlands

Lakes-lakes are fed either by surface water

groundwater or both

Seas- seas are part of oceans and are smaller

than oceans
SDG-life on land
A flourishing life on land is the
foundation for our life on this planet.

Different landforms have different lifes

there.

Like on mountains the different trees

and the different animals live there.

And on plains the style of living is

different than that of mountains and
other landforms
SDG-life below water
Healthy oceans and seas are
essential to our existence. They
cover 70% of our planet and we
rely on them for food energy and
water
Video on landforms and water bodies
Conditions of the landforms
Landforms are categorized as characteristic physical attributes
such as elevation, slope, orientation and soil type. Moving water, thawing ice,
hard winds-all these are physical agents of erosion, weathering that act upon
exposed rock and sediments to produce landforms
Condition of the water bodies
World is endowed with extraordinary diverse water bodies in different parts of the world
commonly known as ponds, lakes, rivers etc. Over 100 million people are facing A world wide
water crises and many cities are facing A acute water shortage. The situation will worsen as
united nations reports say that the demand for water will reach to twice the available supply
and 40% of population will not have access to clean drinking water by 2030.
Conservation of landforms
Landforms are getting ruined becomes of many
factors but we can save them by follow few
conservation methods.
• By not littering and throwing plastic in a recycle
bin
• Picking up trash and throwing in the recycle bin
• By preventing deforestation
• By use carbon dioxide free alternatives like electric
cars
• By planting trees
Conservation of water bodies
Water bodies are getting ruined becomes of many
factors but we can save them by follow few
conservation methods
• Do not litter near A water body such as A lake, river or
sea.
• Industries on the banks of the rivers should be persuaded
to reduce/ reuse/ recycle of treat wastewater.
• Following religious ceremonies on the river bank prevent
left over from sliding into the rivers.
• Plant trees in catchment areas of rivers and also on banks.
• Industrial waste must be treated before discharge into the
river.

Vacation time!
Last time I went for a vacation it was on the 13th of June 2022. It was at
Dalhousie and Manali

Dalhousie-in Dalhousie there were not many physical feature the

mountain range Dhauladhar was there and that was pretty much it

Manali-in Manali there were a few physical features like the mountain
range-Himalayas and the river Beas. At the river Beas I did the river
crossing and zipline which were very fun!
