Objectives
This experiment aims to
1. Determine the thermal conductivity of a different building
materials such as plywood, concrete, marble.
2. Illustrate and calculate the overall heat transfer coefficient for a
given construction wall.
Thermal conductivity review
Energy flow in different Systems (Driving Force)

Heat transfer from one location to the other location is the presence of
temperature gradient or a temperature difference.
Heat energy can be transferred in three modes
1- Conduction 2- Convection 3- Radiation
Thermal conductivity review
Fourier’s law is applicable in one-dimension if
1. System is in steady state 2. No heat generation in side the specimen
Thermal conductivity review

: Heat Transfer Rate W : Heat Energy J
R: Thermal Resistance K/W or Co/W
Construction wall layers
Construction wall layers
Thermal mass is the ability of a material to absorb, store and release heat.

Overall heat transfer coefficient
Overall heat transfer coefficient is a measure of the overall ability of a
series of conductive and convective barriers to transfer heat.
Experiment apparatus
The experiment apparatus consists of three main part 1- Display and
control box 2- Specimen holder 3- Cooling water supply device
