Renewable energy

By Ashton
What is Renewable Energy?
 Renewable energy is energy that replenishes itself within a
human timescale.
 It includes sources such as sunlight, wind, rain, tides,
waves, and geothermal heat , biomass, Hydro etc.
Advantages and Disadvantages of renewable energy
Advantages:
 Renewable energy won’t run out
 Renewable energy has lower maintenance requirements
 Renewables save money
 Renewable energy can cut down on waste
 Renewable energy leads to cleaner water and air.

Disadvantages:
 Renewable energy has high upfront costs
 Renewable energy is intermittent (stopping for a short time and
then starting again several times)
 Renewables have limited storage capabilities
 Renewable energy sources have geographic limitations
 Renewables aren’t always 100% carbon-free
Solar Energy
 Solar energy is radiant light and heat from the Sun that is harnessed using a
range of technologies . Uses energy from the sun to generate electricity and heat
 Either through photovoltaic (PV) panels or through mirrors that concentrate
solar radiation.

 How does it work?

Wind Energy
 Wind power or wind energy is the use of wind turbines to
generate electricity.
 Examples of Wind Energy – Wind energy or wind power
harnesses the wind to produce mechanical power through wind
turbines and then turns it into electricity using electric generators.
Hydro Energy
 Utilizes fast-moving water to spin turbines and generate
electricity.
 Hydropower, or hydroelectric power, is one of the oldest
and largest sources of renewable energy, which uses the
natural flow of moving water to generate electricity.
Geothermal Energy
 Leverages heat from inside the earth to generate electricity.
 Geothermal energy is the thermal energy in the Earth's crust which
originates from the formation of the planet and from radioactive
decay of materials in currently uncertain but possibly roughly equal
proportions.
