Introduction
What is Ballet Folklorico?
• Ballet Folklorico is Mexican folk dance not to be confused with
Flamenco which is Spanish.
• There are many different ‘regions’ each region represents a
different state and has different steps, music style, and costumes.
• Ballet Folklorico was brought to Mexico by the Spaniard
conquistadors and is heavily influenced by Spanish, French,
African, and Indigenous cultures.
Our Goals For This Semester
What we’re trying to accomplish
Officer Positions
We need officers in order to be an organized group. You do not need previous folklorico experience or previous
leadership experience to be an officer. The available officer positions are:
President
Vice – President
Historian
Secretary
Treasurer
We will be holding elections for each position. If you are interested, please reach out after the meeting and I will
set up a page where we can all vote. If we are not able to fulfill officer positions, we will be unable to be an
organization. Please if you are interested in a position get in contact with me ASAP and we can find one that fits
best.
Practices
Currently we are holding practices on Wednesday from 4:30 to 6:00 pm behind the rec center by the practice
fields. You do not need experience to come dance with us. All that is needed is a willingness to learn!
If you are interested in buying folklorico shoes for practice we have some for sale at a discounted price in various
sizes and colors. Additionally, shoes and practice skirts can be purchased from Mariachi Connection or La Rosa
Dance Supply here in San Antonio.
Shoes are required for performance! However we do have costumes so you would not need to purchase any on
your own.
Shoes generally run for around $45 and skirts run around $50. We have shoes on sale from $25 to $35
