Thespians and Drama

What is a Thespian
A Thespian is a performer of the theatrical arts, specifically
acting, but we extend that to include all the fields of theatre,
lights, sound, costumes, set, props, and actors. A Thespian is a
title given to those who honor the theatrical arts and all of its
parts.
A Thespian is also a member of an Honor Society
Act well your part; there all the honor lies

Thespian Points and Why You Should Care

You may have heard your student talk about Thespian dues and
Points recently. Thespian points are an Honor System with the
Thespian Society to reward Students for Participation and
excellence in the performing arts.
Theses Points will earn your students various rewards such as
induction and a membership card at 10 points, Letter at 30,

Thespian Conferences
La Cueva attends two Thespian conferences during the school
year, one at Denver in early December, and another in Santa Fe
in Mid January.
We attend these conferences to extend the learning and skills of
the students and provide them with the chance to take
workshops and classes with some of the best acting and technical
teachers around. These classes range from Stage combat 101 and
the basics of comedia del arte, to lighting design and how to
manage theatres.

Competing at ThesCons
All Thespian conferences offer the ability to compete in a variety of
categories, monologues, duet and group scenes, solo, duet and group
musical pieces, lighting, sound, and costume designing, and a Tech
challenge. Providing the chance for any student to participate and
compete.
La Cueva Thespians Ranked 4th out of 50+ attending troupes in the
Denver Tech challenge.
A high enough score from a competition piece will qualify your student
to go to the International Thespian conference in Nebraska during the
summer, where they can win scholarships and similar prizes.

Shows
La Cueva will be putting on two Mainstage productions this school
year, with the addition of Night of The Living Videos (NOLV), and
possible improve shows.

7PM and October 1st at 2PM.
NOLV will be November 4th-5th at 7PM.
The undetermined Spring Production(Musical?) will be Febuary 10 th11th at 7PM and 12th at 2PM.
Dates and time for Improv will be determined at a later date as well.

Rehearsals
Rehearsal for all productions start after school by 3 PM, and will
last generally until 5 PM during normal rehearsals.
During Tech week we will extend the rehearsal times to 7-8
After we start Off-Book (Lines memorized) Rehearsals may
extend up to 15 minutes for notes. Your student should inform
you of delays.

Commitment Checks and Ways to Help

In order to put on the quality of productions your student deserves,
we need parent involvement. To make this as organized as possible,
we ask that every family write a $50 commitment check to help
pay for the many expenses that go along with theater. If you do not
wish to pay $50 you can pay us in your time, with 4 hours of
volunteer work. This can be either sewing, organizing costumes,
getting props, finding donations, providing meals, painting,
building, collecting tickets or anything else you can think of that is
approved by Mrs. Hall. If you have chosen to donate your time,
your check will be returned once the show closes.
If you cannot pay the required fees nor donate your time, converse
with Ms. Hall privately

Chaperoning and Volunteering

Cost for a background check to become a volunteer is $12.
Payment will be requested within the application through PayPal.
Background checks will be conducted based on information
provided within the application.
The clearance will be communicated directly to the school sites
