ASTHMA AND IT’S TYPES
 Asthma is a common long term inflammatory
disease of the airways of the lungs.

Bronchial tubes become swollen and does not


allow air to come in and out of the lungs.
Occupational Asthma is caused by inhaling fumes,
gases, dust or other potentially harmful substances
while on the job.
Childhood Asthma impacts millions of children and
their families. In fact, the majority of children who
develop asthma do so before the age of five.

ASTHMA SYMPTOMS
The most common symptom is wheezing. This is a
scratchy or whistling sound when you breathe.

Other symptoms include


•    Shortness of breath
•    Chest tightness or pain
•    Chronic coughing
•    Trouble sleeping due to coughing or wheezing
WHO GETS ASTHMA?
 People who have allergies or a parent or
close family member with asthma are more
likely to have the condition.
 More boys have asthma than girls, but it's
more common in women than in men.
Smoking
 Several studies suggest that teens and adults
who smoke are more likely to get asthma.
WHO GETS ASTHMA?

Allergies
 Common things that can trigger an asthma attack
include mold; dust mites; cockroaches; pollen from
trees, grass, or flowers, and foods such as peanuts,
eggs, and fish.
Pets
 Dead skin cells from your pet that collect on
clothing, furniture, and walls. When you breathe it
in, it can trigger an asthma attack .
WHO GETS ASTHMA?
 The weather can make asthma symptoms worse.
When the temperature drops, the chances of
having an attack may go up. Air that's extremely
humid or very dry can be a trigger, too.
DIAGNOSIS
 A lung test called Spirometry measures how much
air you can breathe in and out.
 The results will help your doctor decide whether you
have asthma and how severe it is.
ASTHMA TREATMENT

 There is no cure for asthma, but symptoms can be


controlled with effective asthma treatment through
controller medications of Inhalation of
Corticosteriods
