PHENOMENON

NATURAL WORLD
Maximiliano Alejandro Sarabia Parra
FLOOD
Floods occur on our planet as a result of various factors such as natural weather
phenomena, human constructions, human activities or even climate change.
We define a flood as a massive occupation by water from areas that were dry.
Factors that lead to a flood can be temporary rise in the level of a river, lake or
sea. Although sometimes unavoidable, sometimes floods can be situations that
can be controlled by human activity, by the misuse of land near watercourses.
INTERESTING FACT

It is estimated that floods are the catastrophe or natural disaster that causes the most deaths on the
planet. During the twentieth century, it has been estimated that some 3.2 million people have lost
their lives to this cause, constituting more than half of the victims of natural disasters during the
same period.
CAUSES
1. The accumulation of waste is one of the causes of flooding in urban areas.
2. saturation of soils by not being able to store more water.
3. Water pipes
4. Dam ruptures
5. Heavy rainfall
6. Forest destruction.
AFTERMATH
1. Economic: floods cause the loss of large amounts of material goods, to which must
be added the cost of rebuilding infrastructure.
2. Health: floods increase the risk of fecal-oral transmission diseases and transmit
pathogens such as malaria, dengue, leptospirosis, jungle yellow fever or cholera.
People can also be injured as a result of fallen trees, power lines, or other debris.
3. Environment: damage to agricultural land, damage to crops and food production. In
addition, floods also spread pollution, harming animals and humans.
HOW TO PREVENT
Don't throw debris or trash in the streets. This waste clogs sewers and can lead to flooding
of roads. Similarly, avoid taking the garbage to the street if it is not going to be collected
immediately. Observe if there are obstructions on wells, drains and other structures, as well
as the increase in level in the sewers.
