The classification
of Tense:
There are three
kinds of Tense

1. Present Tense 2. Past Tense 3. Future tense


Present Tense

Present indefinite Present continuous Present perfect


Present perfect tense
tense tense continuous tense
• I eat rice. • I am eating rice. • I had eat rice. • I had been eating
rice for 10 minutes.
Present indefinite tense.

 Example:
 1. I eat rice.
 2. He eats rice.
 Structure: Subject + Main form of verb + Extension
 [note: if the subject is third person singular number , there will be s/es after the main verb.]
 Structure: Subject+ do not/does not + base form of main verb+ extension
 Structure: Do / Does + Subject + Main form of verb + Extension+ ?
 Structure: Do/ Does + Subject + not+ Main form of verb + Extension+ ?
Present continuous tense

 Example:
 I am eating rice.
 They are eating games.
 Structure: Subject + am/is/are + main verb”s ing form + Extension.
 Structure: Subject + am/is/are +not+ main verb”s ing form + Extension.
 Structure: Am/Is/Are + Subject + main verb”s ing form + Extension+?
 Structure: Am/Is/Are + Subject +not+ main verb”s ing form + Extension.+?
Present perfect tense

 Example:
 He has eaten rice.
 I have eaten rice.
 Structure: Subject + have/has + main verbs past participle form + Extension.
 Structure: Subject + have/has + not + main verbs past participle form +
Extension.
 Structure: Have/Has+ Subject + main verbs past participle form + Extension.
 Structure: Have/Has+ Subject +not+ main verbs past participle form + Extension.
Present Perfect Continuous Tense.

 Example:
 1. He have been eating rice since morning.
 Structure: Subject+ have/has + been + main verb’s ing form+ Extension +
I since/for + given time
 Structure: Subject+ have/has +not+ been + main verb’s ing form+ Extension
s + since/for + given time

 Structure: Have/Has + Subject+ been + main verb’s ing form+ Extension+ I


since/for + given time+?
 Structure: Have/Has + Subject + not+ been + main verb’s ing form+ Extension+ since/for +
given time+?
