Chapter I
Introduction

A . Background
English is the international language. By mastering the English language
is good, then we can communicate with other nations in the world. In
addition, we can add insight and our knowledge for the betterment of our
nation and state, as it can read and understand English literature, as well as
watching flims other sciences. Then, in the end we can master knowledge in
all fields.
As for the background of the making of this paper is to fulfill the tasks
subjects of English in accordance with the time that has been set.

C. Purpose
Identification of the problem the above, then we can conclude this paper
aims to clarify these points, in accordance with the knoeledge that we
abtained either from the source book and our faculty. May all be useful for
readers and writers.

Discussion

A . Present Perfect Continouos Tense


Present Perfect Continouos Tense is used to declare an act or event which
starts from the past and still continues to the present time. Which after
happened and is still going on even very likely to continue from the
beginning until now even later. The word “already” or “from the first” herein
may be time yesterday, two hours ago, a century ago, it could be a few
minuteshad passed. Conclusion events to be disclosed in present perfect
continouos tense emplhasis is not on at this time, but in the period the last
time, already, is still and will happen.
Example :
 She has been learning english for 3 years
 I have been teaching english since last year
 They have been touring since yesterday
All words underlined show us that all the work and activities is still ongoing
and may even be the same again in the future then.

1. Use Present Perfect Continuous Tense


We use Present Perfect Continous When we encounter a condition
where an event that has long occurred just quit. An example of condition
like this:
Mira asked why Sinta wet roads ?
 Mira: Shinta, the road is wet do you know why?
 Shinta: It has been raining Mira.

It has been raining is sentence Present Perfect Continous. Shinta


explained that previously there has been rain. Sentences Present
Perfect Continous always relate to current conditions.
Note the following sentences :
 Jamie is very tired. He has been working very hard. (He is tired
now)
 You are bleeding. What have you been doing? (you are bleeding
now)
 She has been talking to Ira about the plan. Ira is telling everyone
now.
Formula

Positive : Subject + have/has + been + Ving

Negative : S + have/has + not + been + Ving

Interrogative : Have/has + S + been + Ving

Examples :
 (+) We have been discussing the problem for several hours.
 (-) She has not been learning english for 3 years.
 (?) Has She been learning english for 3 years?

2. Comparison Present Perfect Continous with Present Continous


Let us consider the following sentence sixth :
1.Present Continous
 Fahmi, please answer the phone. I am cooking now.
 Lets go to that house, it is raining.
 Ben, we are waiting for you please hurry.

2. Present Perfect Continous


 I have been cooking for three hours, now I’m to going to watch tv
 The road is wet. It has been raining
 We have been waiting for two hours, now let’s get going

present continous tense the whole sentence shows the condition at


the present time. Whereas present perfect continous sentence is
divided into two sections in the present and past time.The
characteristics of the usual in life Present Perfect Continuous Tense
is the same as Present Perfect.
Eg :since and for
Tenses is to declare the events or actions that are being
implemented.
Formula :
S + HAVE/HAS + BEEN + V3

Example : Amirul has been studying for this campus for two years.

1.Positive sentence pattern in use is :
a. For subyek I, We, You, They
Subyek + have + been +V1 + ing

b. For subyek He, She, It :


Subyek + has+ been +V1 + ing

Examples :
- She has been studying for three hours.
- We have been living here since 2003
- Tomy has been working in aschool since
- I have sitting hare since ten o’clock
- They have been talking most of the time
- It has been raining all night

2. Negative sentence pattern in use is :


a. For subyek I, We, You, They
Subyek + have + not + been +V1 + ing

b. For subyek He, She, It :


Subyek + has+ not + been +V1 + ing

Examples :
-She has not been studying for three hours.
-We have not been living here since 2003.
- We haven’t been waiting since last morning
- He hasn’t been sailing since December
- I haven’t been reading since night
- It hasn’t been raining all week.

3. interrogative sentence pattern in use is :


a . Close Questions
Formula :

Have/has + subject + been + verb1 + ing + objetc

Example :
- Has he been raining all week ?
- Has he been cooking since night ?
- Have we been waiting since last morning ?
- Have you been watching since night ?
- Have they been talking for a day ?
- Has she been sailing since December ?

b . Open Questions
Formula :

W5H1 + Have/has + subject + been + verb1 + ing + objetc

Examples :
- How long has jeryrunning ?
- How long have they been looking ?
- Who has been washing all night ?
- Why have you been doing ?
- What has been reading ?
- Who has been traveling all day ?
If the sentence interrogative in the from of this using the word
interrogativeor question word or QW, then sentence patterns in use
is :
1. If the word interrogative that is use not asking the subject, then
the sentence he asked was :
a. For subyekI, We, You, They :
QW + have + Subyek + been + V1 + ing?

b. For subyekHe, She, It :


QW + has + Subyek + been + V1 + ing?

Examples :
- How long she has been living here?

sentence pattern are :
Question Word + has + been + V1 + ing ?

Examples :
- Who has been hunting in the forest?
C.adverb of time
a. Stating that acts or events that have occurred in the past and is still
happening today and in the future.
Examples :
- I have been working here for nineyears.
b .To express activities or events, but here only accentuated the continuity
of these activities at a given time (although this time the activity or the
event will not occur.)
Examples :
- She has been waiting for hours today.

Examples adverb of time is use :


1. since...

4. the whole days
5. still
6. anymore

8. for ten years
