LIFE THAT
PLEASES GOD

TITUS 2:11-12, 3:8

TITUS 2:11-12

• 11 For the grace of God that bringeth salvation

hath appeared to all men,
• 12 Teaching us that, denying ungodliness and
worldly lusts, we should live soberly,
righteously, and godly, in this present world;
• Titus 3:8
King James Version

This is a faithful saying, and these things I will

that thou affirm constantly, that they which have

believed in God might be careful to maintain good
works. These things are good and profitable unto
men.
• Titus 3:8
King James Version

This is a faithful saying, and these things I will that thou affirm constantly, that they

which have believed in God might be careful to maintain good works. These things are
good and profitable unto men.
FREEDOM AND GLORY IN CHRIST
TITUS 2:11-15,TITUS 3:3-8

Having described how the church should act, Paul gives the grace of God as the
reason for them to behave this way. Christians were once slaves to their sins, but
God saved them, and they have been taught to “turn away from godless living”.
They place their trust not in whether they will be treated well in this life, but in
the eternal promise of salvation. They place their hope not in things working out
now, but in the day that Jesus will reveal himself to humanity.
HOW TO LIVE LIFE THAT PLEASES
GOD IN THE PRESENT WORLD
(ACCORDING TO THE BOOK OF
TITUS)
1. WE HAVE TO LIVE SOBERLY

• -Being sober minded means that we do not allow ourselves to be captivated by any type
of influence that would lead us away from sound judgement.
• The sober minded Christian is not intoxicated and is therefore calm under pressure , self
controlled in all areas, and rational.
More often than not, we see the opposite of sober-mindedness displayed in
our world. Silliness, irresponsible choices, foolish experimentation with
harmful substances or behaviors, and crude joking are in direct opposition to
the command to be sober-minded. Ephesians 5:3–4 lists some behaviors that
conflict with sober-minded living:
“But among you there must not be even a hint of sexual immorality, or of
any kind of impurity, or of greed, because these are improper for God’s
holy people. Nor should there be obscenity, foolish talk or coarse joking,
which are out of place.”
Then, in case someone should think this is a list of judgmental
preferences, Paul goes on to write the following: “For of this you can be
sure: No immoral, impure or greedy person—such a person is an idolater
—has any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and of God. Let no one
deceive you with empty words, for because of such things God’s wrath
comes on those who are disobedient. Therefore do not be partners with
them” (Ephesians 5:5–7).
1 PETER 1:13
“THEREFORE, PREPARING YOUR MINDS FOR ACTION, AND BEING SOBER-MINDED, SET YOUR HOPE FULLY ON
THE GRACE THAT WILL BE BROUGHT TO YOU AT THE REVELATION OF JESUS CHRIST .

The underlying Greek word for “being sober-minded” in the New Testament literally means to “be
wineless.” That means that you and I are to be free from the intoxicating powers of alcohol or the
influence of any drug or narcotic.

When they are allowed to gain control of the mind, they weaken your judgment and lower your
standards. And if your standards become lowered, your faith can be easily compromised.

God needs our minds to be prepared and alert so that we can serve him with our focused attention.
Because unholy things that gain control of your thought life will weaken and distort your
judgment.
2. LIVE RIGHTEOUSLY

• Proverbs 21:21
He who follows righteousness and mercy finds life, righteousness, and honor.

This proverb shows the rewards of obedience to God.

When we live righteously and show mercy, the result will be blessings from God (Proverbs 15:9; Psalm
23:6). Whether or not those blessings are physical, they most certainly are spiritual. Our lives are
enriched and often prolonged when we follow God’s law (Proverbs 3:1-2).
• Jesus Christ taught that we show love to God by keeping the commandments
of God (John 14:15). Because of our obedience, God shows His love toward
us—often with blessings and honor (Psalm 91:14-16; John 12:26).

14 “Because he[a] loves me,” says the Lord, “I will rescue him;
I will protect him, for he acknowledges my name.
15 He will call on me, and I will answer him;
I will be with him in trouble,
I will deliver him and honor him.(A)
16 With long life(B) I will satisfy him
    and show him my salvation
• Yet the blessings God grants us are not just limited to this life. In the world to come,
God will give us eternal life, share His divine nature and honor us as kings and priests
reigning with Jesus Christ (Ephesians 2:4-7; Revelation 5:10).

• Righteousness is a matter of the heart. A man can do charitable things but still be
wicked in his heart, We need to bare our hearts before the Lord , being honest with
him.
• John 1:10- If we say that we have not sinned, we make Him a liar and His words is not
in us.

• Let us not forget that He sees what we hide inside our hearts and minds, and that He is
committed to making us righteous from the inside out.
3. LIVE A GODLY LIFE

• Godliness is rather a word that described an attitude toward God. W. E. Vine, an authority
on New Testament words, says that it “denotes that piety which, characterized by a
godward attitude, does that which is well pleasing to Him.”
• God is so much a part of the thinking of a godly man that He cannot be disregarded.
Every decision takes into account what God has said or whether God will approve. God’s
word is searched to find even the slightest hint as to what God’s will might be in any
given situation., Pleasing God is the goal of his life; displeasing God is that which he
most desires to avoid.
• With this description of godliness in mind, it is clear that the world around us is ungodly.
The average man on the street never gives God a thought in choosing his occupation, his
life’s companion, or his place of residence - to say nothing of his recreation or wardrobe.
He may give God a passing thought on an occasional Sunday morning, and he may not be
particularly immoral, but to say that God dominates his life would be to overstate the case
by a considerable margin.

The ungodly man finds it difficult to understand the action of the godly. The godly have
faith, and act in view of, and with consciousness of One whom the faithless, physical eye
cannot see.
