INTERVIEW

•  Widely used method of data collection

• By Definition

“An interview is a structured conversation where one


participant asks questions, and the other provides
answers.”
From Research’s Perspective

• Verbal interaction between the researcher and the


respondents. 
• The interviewer tries to assess the interviewee.

• Interviewer asks questions in a face-to-face


contact (generally) to the interviewee

Importance of Interviews

• It is the method best suited for the assessment of personal qualities.

• It is one of the major bases upon which counseling procedures are


carried out.
• It provides information to supplement other methods of collecting
data.
• It may be used, in addition to observation, to verify information
obtained through correspondence methods
Types of interviews/ Ways of Conducting
Interviews

1)Personal Interviews
 Questions are asked personally, directly to the respondent. 

 A face-to-face interview

2) Telephone Interviews

• Conducted over phones

• No personal interaction

• Pre-prepared questions

3) Group Interviews

• Interviewees formed as a group

4) Panel Interviews

• Consists of a panel of multiple interviewers interviewing a


single interviewee.
