OBJECTIVE
By the end of the lesson, students will be able to:
COMMANDS
A command is an order
to do something.
Stop running!
Open your book, please. Please, answer the phone.
REQUESTS
Requests, unlike commands,
are quite a polite way to ask
someone to do something.
Example:
The doctor: “Get plenty of rest.”
Reported speech:
The doctor told me TO GET plenty of rest.
or
The doctor said TO GET plenty of rest.
More examples:
1. The teacher: “Take a break.”
Reported speech: The teacher told us TO TAKE a break.
Example:
My sister: Could you help me cook dinner, please?
Reported speech:
My sister asked me TO HELP her cook dinner.
Cindy:
“Help me move this desk.” COMMAND
REPORTED SPEECH:
Cindy TOLD US to help her move the desk.
Cindy ASKED US to help her move the desk.
