WHAT IS
CRITIQUE?
CRITIQUE
● Is derived from ancient Greek (“kritike”). It is defined as a
careful judgement in which you shape your opinion about the
strengths weaknesses of a piece of writing or work of art.
● Is a systematic analysis of a piece of literature that discusses
it’s validity and evaluates its worth.
● Is a paper that gives a critical assessment of a book or article.
● Its main purpose is not informational, but analytical and
persuasive.
● In analyzing the content and context within which the book
( or article ) was written, the writer of the critique argues
whether it is worth reading or not.
