DESCRIPTION OF THE COURSE

• Composition II: is designed to offer students a clear vision of


the organization of ideas in order to develop a coherent and
logical writing. The students will develop the different
characteristics of the written paragraph as well as the
different rhetorical patterns such as narrative, descriptive,
illustration, procedure, informative, contrast among others.
For this, students will also increase their vocabulary and
transitional words which will progressively allow the
development of effective writing.
JUSTIFICATION OF THE COURSE

• It is necessary that the students develop the writing


communicative skills since this will allow him / her to
effectively express ideas using different rhetorical
patterns in paragraphs. This will also allow him / her to
increase vocabulary for effective communication.
GENERAL OBJECTIVES

• To master the different rhetorical patterns to write effective


paragraphs.
• To be aware of the organization in the written paragraph.
SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES
KNOWLEDGE IN:
•To study and analyze the general characteristics of the written
paragraph.
•To recognize what to include in a topic sentence for a process
paragraph.
•To recognize how to use signal words for connecting specific
paragraphs.
•To recognize what to include in a topic sentence for a
descriptive, opinión, compare and contrast, cause and effect
paragraph
•To use descriptive details to describe people.
•To recognize appropriate topics to compare and contrast
•To recognize elements of paragraph unity.
SKILLS FOR:

• To apply transitional words to different paragraph for


smooth reading.
• To organize ideas and write them in sequential order.
• To use techniques such as brainstorming, clustering.
• To write paragraphs using specific grammar
structures.
ATTITUDES FOR:

• To work in cooperation and readiness.


• To participate in all activities within the classroom
• To respect others’ opinions.

5. ORGANIZING INFORMATION BY ORDER OF IMPORTANCE
6. ORGANIZING INFORMATION BY SPATIAL ORDER.

FINAL EXAMINATION-
February 21 st.
METHODOLOGY

• In each session, the guider will give short explanations


about a writing topic. Later, some activities will allow the
participants to put into practice the new knowledge as
well as to hand in some given tasks. The participants will
submit and discuss with the teacher the written activities
from the book.

POLICY OF THE COURSE
• Be on time.
• Projects and homework must be submitted on the due date. Lateness
will cause considerable grade lowering.
• Turn off your cell phones.
• More than three absences will cause course failure.
• Dress appropriately.
