What is feature writing
• It’s a type of journalistic text that is longer
than the other texts. It goes into historical
details , consequences and a much deeper
views about the issue that goes beyond the
immediate news of the moment. It still is
objective(fair) and fact based .It usually
presents a balanced argument with out too
many injections/opinions of the writer 
Types of feature writing
• 1. Human interest (issues related to people)
• example of Title: “ How Meditating Can
Relieve One’s Stress”

• 2. Profile (focuses on specific individuals)


• Ex: “ The Infamous President of Mossia and
the Way He’s Affecting the Country”
3. Instructional
Ex: “Making a Wedding Cake”

4. Historical
Ex: “The Ancient Civilization of Mormia and
Its Effect on Our World Today.

5. Seasonal (things related to seasons)


Ex: “This Summer is More Exciting than Last Year’s”
6. Behind the scenes. (Gives knowledge on
unusual issue, event or process)
Ex: “Global Warming and the Process
Behind It”
Things to remember when writing a feature
writing
1. Be objective (fair) You can
include opinions, but not to many. This is not
an editorial where you put opinion. Feature
text is an in depth writing about something.

2. Carefully check your writing.


A feature text is usually 350-500 words. It can
more, only for the experts
Structure of Feature writing
1. Paragraph 1
List the 5W’s of the issue. Grab the reader’s attention.

2. Paragraph 2
Outline the ‘things people say’ about the topic.

3. Paragraph 3
Make your own position clear about the issue. (it
shouldn’t be longer than the other paragraphs, because
this is not an opinionated paper)
4. Paragraph 4
Testimonials from people you’ve interviewed

5. Paragraph 5
Look at the history of this topic/issue

6. Paragraph 6
Ask some pointed/attractive questions
7.Paragraph 7
Establish what our current understanding is.
Try to include understandings of different
types of people regarding to the issue to make it
objective.

8. Paragraph 8
Personal anecdote/experience in relation to
the issue.
9. Paragraph 9
Potential impact on our country/the world
moving forward(in the future)

10. Conclusion
Return to the original idea from the article,
and bring back what you were trying to say
in the beginning.
