 ESSAY QUESTION
In using an essay format and an example from any one Pacific Island society, you are
required to answer the following questions:
 Identify a type of migration you have learned about in this course (skilled, sports,
indentured labourers, refugee & so forth). You are required to provide some background
information on it (when did the type of migration start (dates/years, routes (places
travelled), who all were involved and what laws in place facilitated the travel?

 Discuss three positive impacts of your chosen type of migration in receiving country.

 Discuss three challenges of your chosen type of migration in receiving country

 Propose three factors which will assist newly immigrants to adjust and adapt in their new
country of residence

 Propose how Sociological Imagination best fits your discussion and provide two reasons
for your answer.
INTRODUCTION
 INTRODUCTION

Start with an opening sentence and you need to inform the

reader of what you intend to discuss in the essay. Example
is provided as follows:

With the advancements in Information Communication Technologies, people have

been able to travel across the globe. This essay will focus on indentured labourers who
were recruited form India between the years 1879-1916 to come and work on the sugar
plantations in Fiji. Three positive impacts and challenges faced by the arrival of girmitiers
will be discussed. Three factors which assisted girmitiers to adjust in their new country of
residence will be discussed. Last, I will use how Sociological Imagination best suits my
discussion with reasons provided.
