DEFINITION
DEFINITION OF BIOGRAPHY
●Also called a ‘bio’, is a non-fiction
piece of work giving an objective
account of a person’s life. It entails
basic facts, such as childhood,
education, career, relationships,
family, and death.
●Biography is a literary genre
that portrays the experiences
of all these events occurring
in the life of a person, mostly
in a chronological order.
●A biography provides a life
story of a subject,
highlighting different
aspects of his of her life. A
person who writes
biographies, is called as a
“biographer.”

HISTORICAL BIOGRAPHY
• (from the Greek historia: inquiry,
knowledge; bios: life; grafein: writ-
ing) is a reconstruction of a human
life, and a representation of an
historical individual.
• The largest and most famous library
known to man boasts rich antiquity of
stories of great men and their glories
in empires past.

● Cover multiple subjects at once.
(Not every subject in one story, of

LITERARY BIOGRAPHY
● A popular genre in nonfiction, a literary
biography is a type of literature focusing on the
life of an author’s chosen subject. As mentioned
previously, you can write about famous people,
