TAKING CARE
OF YOUR
BODY

HEALTH is a state of complete physical, mental and social well

being and not just absence of disease
 Women often talk about and
share experiences and tips on
make up, hair care, skin care, but
sadly intimate hygiene is rarely a
topic of conversation.

 Maintaining hygiene in the

intimate zone is extremely
important for women, not just to
feel fresh & clean but to avoid
unpleasant & sometimes
dangerous health problems
FEMININE HYGIENE
Feminine hygiene is a crucial
part of any woman's daily
routine.

It includes many aspects that a

woman can perform on a daily
basis including : the clothes she
wears, the way she cleanses her
intimate area etc.

Proper intimate care can help

maintain feminine health.
WHY INTIMATE HYGEINE IS IMPORTANT ?????
 Skin protects from the harmful external
environment. This is achieved by a thin
acidic film enveloping the skin, called the
acid mantle.

Acid mantle acts as a barrier to bacteria,

viruses and other foreign particles that
might penetrate the skin. It is secreted by
sebaceous glands.

Human skin has an acid mantle of pH*4-6,

although it varies in different areas of the
skin, the pH of vaginal tract is 3.5-4.5. An
increase in the skin surface pH increases its
susceptibility to infections or skin damage
and hence diseases.
Delicate and sensitive vulva needs
more pampering and protection
than those visible areas of your
body.

Sadly most women forget

their Perineal wash. Some
settle for soap instead &
some just wash with water.
THINGS TO DO
FOR INTIMATE HYGIENE
CLEANSING
•Use mild soap/perineal wash and
water to clean your genital area.
Clean between the folds of the labia,
as well as the anus, and avoid
perfumes and scented lotions.

•Perfumes and scented lotions can

break down the genitals' natural
barrier.
MENSTRUATION
Wash frequently with mild
soap and water when
menstruating.

Change your sanitary napkins,

every four to six hours, it will
help to eliminate odors as well
as reduce the risk of infections.
CLOTHING

Wear undergarments with a

cotton crotch and change them
daily.

You should avoid wearing tight

jeans, pants and inner as they
tend to hold in moisture, which
creates a breeding ground for
bacteria.
BALANCED DIET

Eat a balanced diet high in

nutrition. A diet with plenty of
fruits, vegetables, yogurt and
whole grains such as brown rice
will help prevent your body and
vagina from experiencing
infections or ailments.
TAKEN HELP
In a culture where women have
an expectation to "have it all"
and "do it all" they often find
themselves short on time to
"take care of it all". This even
extends into matters of
"feminine health".

Only 24% of women go to a

gynecologist at the first sign of
a problem.
Some things that should be
evaluated by a gynecologist
include:

• Abdominal pain,
• Abnormal bleeding,
• Fever and/or chills,
• Abnormal vaginal discharge or odor
• Vulvovaginal lesions,
• Painful urination,
• Irregular or missed period.
• Severe menstrual cramps
• Blood in the urine
• Abnormal breast changes
