affecting Fort Lauderdale Beach ,Florida
 About Fort Lauderdale Beach ,Florida
Fort Lauderdale is known for its beautiful beaches and canals there are many fun
activities for families and friends. It also used to be a great place to go for the
holidays.
 What is coastal erosion ?
Coastal Erosion
 Coastal erosion is when land area shrinks due to the transportation of sand from the
beach into the sea.

 There have been many major differences in the amount of land area eroding at the
beach. Few beaches have completely disappeared. It's like a vanishing paradise.
 What is rise of sea level
The rise of sea level is when the height
of the sea increases. This can lead to
flooding and the city could sink.
 Cause of erosion

Erosion happens when sediments deposited at land forming a beach but after around 20-
30 years the beach woud look smaller because waves take back the sand into the water
(transportation) more than it deposits it. The area which has been eroded would be
covered with water.
 cause of rise in sea level
Rise in sea level happens when the temperature of a place becomes higher, resulting in
warming of the ocean causing the water level will rise.

It also happens when due to global warming, a part of glaciers and ice sheets melt
causing flood of waters and rise in sea level.
 how do these changes effect Fort Lauderdale
Beach ,Florida
Due to the coastal erosion land area becomes less
and beaches become less attractive which means
no tourists. If there are no tourists shops,
restaurants, hotels etc are going to to close down
as they would go bankrupt.

Cities around the coastal around Fort Lauderdale

have to build much higher sea walls to protect
themselves as the sea level rises

The beaches were nice an big the sea was far away from After erosion took place the amount of sand was
the palm trees decreased until the palm trees

Lauderdale.
 What is done for prevention

More sand
To rebuild the land area of the beach, a
procession of trucks and tractors would
come and pour gallons of sand into the
beach.

This helps because the beaches will regain

sand and tourists would come there more
often.
