Definition of ICT
 Informationand Communication
Technologies(ICT) is a broader term
information Technology(IT), which refers to
all communication technologies, including
the internet, wireless networks, cell phones,
computers, software, middleware, video-
conferencing, social, networking, and other
media applications and services enabling
users to access ,retrieve, store, transmit and
manipulate information in a digital from.
Objectives of ICT in
Higher Education
 Improvingaccess to the system through online
education.
 Improvingthe quality of teaching, especially
across remote locations.
 Measuring the students’ learning participation
and effectiveness.
 Increasing
transparency and strengthening
systems, processes and compliance norms in
higher education institutes.
Advantages of ICT in
Education
 Teaching models have also changed with
the introduction of ICT, as now learners
participate actively instead of being
passive listeners.
 ICTmakes learning interactive, self-
directed and independent.
 Classroomactivities planned with the use
of ICT makes learning interesting.
 Useof soft copies of learning material
saves and thus, is eco-friendly.
Disadvantages of ICT in
Education
 Technical
issues and malfunctioning of the
hardware equipment can hamper learning.
 Useof too many teaching aids will
confuse students.
 Teachers may also lack skills for ICT in
teaching.
 Theall round of students may be
affected in the absence of a teacher.
Importance of ICT in
Education
 Easily Accessible.
 Can be use remotely.
 Time saving.
 Students can practice difficult task
online.
 Usefulfor differently –abled children
and Individuals.
Challenges in Use of ICT in
Education
 Lack of resources required for bringing
ICT in classrooms.
 The hardware and software required
for using ICT are expensive.
 Lack of willingness in teachers and
institutions for implementing ICT .
 Teachers need to be experts in
creating, using, and updating content.
Conclusion
 In Conclusion ,it can be said that
ICT(Information and Communication
Technology) play a important and
significant role for the all round
development of a student. Now a days the
use of ICT is gradually increase but it has
some limitations.
