WHAT IS SCHRODINGER WAVE EQUATION?
Schrodinger wave equation is a mathematical
expression describing the energy and position of
the electron in space and time, taking into account
the matter wave nature of the electron inside an
atom.

Schrodinger equation gives us a detailed account of

the form of the wave functions or probability
waves that control the motion of some smaller
particles.
WHAT IS SCHRODINGER’S MODEL
OF THE HYDROGEN ATOM ?
Schrodinger model is a model in chemistry that
assumes that an electron is a wave. This model
describes regions in space or orbitals as
locations where electrons are most likely to
occur.

This is a powerful model of the atom that was

developed by Erwin Schrodinger in 1926. He
combined the equations for the behavior of
waves and the de Broglie equation in order to
create a mathematical model to describe the
distribution of electrons in an atom.
WHAT IS SCHRODINGER’S MODEL
OF THE HYDROGEN ATOM ?
The major advantage of Schrodinger model is
that it contains mathematical equations known
as wave functions, which can satisfy the need
for places on the behavior of electrons.

However, it can be difficult to imagine a

physical model for electrons as waves. Rather
than trying to tell where the electron is at any
time, this model describes the probability of an
electron being found in a given region of space
at a given time.
WHAT IS WAVE FUNCTION?
In quantum physics, a wave function is a mathematical
description of a quantum state of a particle as a function of
momentum, time, position, and spin. The symbol used for a
wave function is a Greek letter called psi, 𝚿.

At first, Schrödinger interpreted wave function as the

distribution of the charge of an electron or as charge
density.

However, in 1926, Max Born corrected this interpretation

and said that wave function should be interpreted as a way
to get the probability of finding the electron at a given point
in space or probability density.

WHAT IS WAVE FUNCTION?
To summarize, by using a wave function, the probability of
finding an electron within the matter-wave can be explained.
This can be obtained by including the absolute value of the
wave function (𝚿) that is squared to get a real number
solution resulting in the probable position of an electron. The
concept of wave function was introduced in the year 1925
with the help of the Schrodinger equation.

PROPERTIES OF WAVE FUNCTION

 All measurable information about the particle is available.
 𝚿 should be continuous and single-valued.
 Using the Schrodinger equation, energy calculations becomes easy.
 Probability distribution in three dimensions is established using the The two processes differ greatly. The classical process (A–B) is represented as the motion of a particle
along a trajectory. The quantum process (C–H) has no such trajectory. Rather, it is represented as a
