Importance of Groundwater in Civil
Engineering
• In general, groundwater is important because it is the source of about 37% of
the water that county and city water departments supply to households and
businesses.
• In civil engineering, it helps the engineers estimate and decide on options that
will have an impact on our biological environment.
• Groundwater impacts a project by influencing the function and design of the
facility, as well as the cost of its construction.
